5th Cell: Wii U 'Definitely more powerful' than Xbox 360 and PS3

5th Cell: Wii U

With developers questioning the Wii U's capabilities, the folk behind Scribblenauts has commented on the comparisons between Xbox 360 and PS3.

The CEO of 5th Cell, Jeremiah Slaczka, has found all the talk on the Wii U's power "frustrating" as it draws attention away from the games and potential for what the hardware can do.

In the latest edition of Game Informer, Slaczka commented on the speculation, noting how the studio feel that the Wii U is "definitely more powerful" compared to fellow high-definition cousins, the PS3 and Xbox 360.

He also revealed that Scribblenauts Unlimited, the latest in the series, was originally bound for Wii with two years of development, however when Nintendo demoed the Wii U, the team shifted focus to the new console instead.

This is nice to hear, I'm no graphic whorr but it does frustrate me to hear people bemoaning a systems specs EVEN BEFORE THEIR RELEASE!! I wonder if SOny & M$ planted some bugs into community forums & slipped some money to devs in hopes of causing distention in the public eye. Well whatever it's good to see an independent thinking third party speaking their mind instead of following a misguided hive mindset. Also 5th Cell is actually WORKING WITH Wii U dev kits so I'd say they have more knowledge than others who've commented on the U.

Well this makes me feel a bit better, but I doubt it'll be enough. I always figured that the WiiU would be a bit more powerful in some ways, like RAM. The Xbox360 only has 512MB of RAM. RAM has gotten a lot cheaper since then, so if Nintendo just put 4GB in a 360, it'd be more powerful. Hopefully they do more than that, though.

Nah, they didn't have to. When Nintendo never talked about the power of the system and all of the games shown looked graphically similar to what the Xbox360 and PS3 is doing (plus ports of 360 games), that was enough. It doesn't help that Nintendo has made a history of being underpowered because of the Wii.

Normally Id say that was crazy, but Sony did for many years use fake movie critics to stick on their film poster :-/

Wow, didn't know that darkflame...& yeah I can see that TAG, but still I'm sure the gaming community at large will grow up one day & be able to look beyond graphics.

About Scribblenauts... is this an example of the smartphone generation of games? Because I thought it was incredibly boring.

It's not everyone's cup of tea, but I absolutely loved Scribblenauts. Super Scribblenauts made things even better. I'm sure this will further increase my love for the series.

But yeah, it's definitely not something for everyone.

What do you mean by looking beyond graphics? I'm curious but I fear it's just 'some people don't want to play a game because it doesn't look attractive to them, and they should!'. Well, no.
When you're going out, you don't hang around there in your pyjamas, with unwashed hair and bad breath and wonder why people don't want you. Likewise, if you're not willing to put effort in as a games developer on your games appearance, don't be surprised if your game is avoided.

It's better to not go on first impressions alone, but with limited time and budget I'd say it's understandable. Besides, a game having amazing graphics is usually a good indicator the gameplay will hold up as well, and vice versa. People know this.

You are not alone. I am here with you. Though we're far apart...you're always in my heart. Love u!
