New Earthworm Jim Possible - All About Timing Between Original Team on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Have a craving for a new Earthworm Jim? You may have to wait a little longer, according to David Perry.

The original designer behind the franchise back in its hayday spoke to Eurogamer on a potential new entry and the main issue behind a lack of Jim loving so far is apparently, timing.

Petty revealed that Earthworm Jim 4 is being discussed between himself and the original creators in a Facebook group. With the brains and talent behind the original titles working on all sorts of other projects, it's a case of waiting for the right time to bring everyone back on board. Composer Tommy Tallarico is touring the world as part of Video Games Live, lead writer and artist Doug TenNapel is working on his own comics.

It's just a bunch of guys who all have their own thing. Everyone has their own company. So, to get them to stop what they're doing and work on a game is very difficult, but it's something they all want to do.

There's also some disagreement on the new design between Perry and TenNapel, with the latter opting for a "wimpier Earthworm Jim" who has just come out of retirement.

My job is to fight him on that. No, don't go wimpy. We don't want wimpy!

So a new game is on the cards, but when is uncertain. What is for sure is that the original folk are interested and want to keep the title as a 2D project.

With that in mind, what would you like to see in a new Earthworm Jim game when the team finally get round to it?

Video Games "Live", not life.

I wonder how much the disagreement will get in the way of the game (once they get the ball rollin' at all, that is). My understanding is that Tennapel likes his creative freedom and that even in the first games he didn't get as much as he ideally would have liked. When there was talk of a new EWJ game a few years ago, Tennapel was excited at all the freedom he was going to have with the franchise.

There were sketches of slimmer, not muscular Jim. That might be what Dave Perry's referring to. I thought it would just be a visual change. Maybe Perry doesn't like the look. Or maybe Jim will actually just be weakling. I'd probably be OK with a "wimpy" Jim. I trust the original Earthworm Jim team to make a good game no matter what they do.

Also, there's a typo. The third paragraph starts with "Petty revealed that...". It should be Perry.
