Download New Super Mario Bros 2, Double the Coins on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Those who download New Super Mario Bros 2 will receive an additional bonus for trying out the new service on Nintendo 3DS.

Mario's latest effort to save the poor Princess Peach from the clutches of Bowser's Koopalings will be available in two forms. The first is your standard packaged physical copy, together with instruction manual and that fresh plastic scent. The other is an immediate download from the 3DS eShop.

Both versions come with 50 Club Nintendo coins, but for a limited time the download edition will double that amount to encourage users to see the benefits of going digital. Between the North American launch of August 19 and September 20, downloading New Super Mario Bros 2, will net you 100 Club Nintendo coins.

The game is out August 17 in the UK and July 28 over in Japan.

Mmmmh so that means this is actually an exclusive bonus for North American 3DS owners then? There no such thing as Club Nintendo coins in Europe... Unless that means we'll be getting double the amount of "stars" in Europe.

You might have mentioned it's NA only a bit earlier... I had to find out when I read about coins instead of stars.

Aaaaanyway, I don't have a 3DS (yet) so I don't care.

I heard they're going to charge as much as the physical copy! Smilie That just seems wrong to me. There is so little extra cost involved in a digital copy compared to a physical.

I'm surprised at how small the game file is too. It's a meagre 370 MB in size!

Games bought online are ALWAYS as expensive as the boxed versions. If they were any cheaper, the retailers would protest en masse.

Now if you wait for half a year or so, you usually see online prices drop faster than those in stores... Although Nintendo is pretty famous for never dropping the price of any of their succesful games.

I like how they'll be allowing online and street retailers to lower the price of the download card as they see fit, brings discounts into possibility without actually affecting the eShop core price whilst still keeping retailers happy. Means extra work to go get those codes instead of just downloading straight from the store, but I admire the flexibility options.
