Elsa García, now branded the Zelda gymnast by the gaming community, recently spoke of her love for gaming and her London 2012 Olympic performance.
The elegant, sophisticated, flowing and passionate event, gymnastics, is a firm favourite at any Olympics; and this time round the choice of accompanying music hit the headlines for a different reason - one of the girls, García, performed her floor routine to a sublime medley of popular Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time tunes arranged by YouTube sensation, Lindsey Sterling.
García's sister Laura spoke to Kotaku this week, revealing a lifelong history of gaming between the siblings, recalling memories of Dungeons and Dragons, Mario Kart, Harvest Moon and days playing on the Super Nintendo.
I'm surprised that so many people have recognized the song. It's a win-win situation. I like the fact that gamers want more people to recognize beautiful game soundtracks and I want more people to get involved in gymnastics.I thought of Link running around through the forest, mountains, caves, and how agile he is, it was funny to think that I was doing something similar but in my own way," Elsa said. "I liked what it reminded me of: the whole concept of never giving up on my quest.
When I change my floor routine in the future I will gladly accept musical suggestions.
Despite her hefty training and performing schedules, García still spends a fair bit of time on Mario Kart with her DS.
