Zelda Book Pre-Order Tops 50 Shades of Grey on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Bestselling erotic novel 50 Shades of Grey has been dethroned, making way for Nintendo's own Hyrule Historia.

Last week it was revealed that the bible of all things The Legend of Zelda would be officially localised and released in the US, Canada, UK, Australia and various parts of Europe. The 272 page book includes development concepts, artwork and timeline details for virtually all the games in the series so far - from the earliest adventure on the NES to Link's most recent conquest, Skyward Sword on Wii.

Since going up for pre-order on Amazon.com, the book has taken the top spot in the retailer's bestseller list, and 8th on Amazon UK, despite only being shipped in January next year.

Kotaku also have a first peak at the English edition, which will include all the notes, quotes and interesting series trivia from the Japanese original.

Will you be ordering the Hyrule Historia book for your size of all things Zelda?

Getting my pre-order for the book right away. I ALMOST bought the Japanese version when it was up for pre-order, but missed out. Now I'm glad I "waited"!

Yep, I pre-ordered it as soon as it went up on Amazon UK.

Woah, I want it.... but it's also expensive. Smilie

I want both this and the Skyward Sword Link action figure.

Oh wait, today I heard my job's hiring me for another year. Smilie I could reward myself with these items.

So lemme get this straight, did Hyrule Historia outsell the greatest selling book of all time? Or just in pre-orders or in this single week?

Either way I'm really glad it's doing so well! Maybe it'll do well enough for them to consider a price drop :3 I didn't know Zelda was this popular in the west.

Wait, is 50 Shades of Gray the greatest selling book of all time? I really hope you're wrong.

Also, what's up with the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association being number 3? It's been in the top 100 for over two years now.

I don't know that book, but it can only be the best selling book on Amazon.com. I know for sure that I've never seen the book in any top 10 lists.

What stores in the US will sell this? Will I have to go to a Boarders, a Barns & Noble or will GameStop be selling these as well?

Don't know - but I'd honestly just recommend placing your order with Amazon. Their price is roughly  $10-15 off MSRP, which is likely what you'll pay at a regular shops. I made my pre-order with them.

Are there openings in preorders still? I don't really like relying on Online Purchases/Shipping from some bad experiences but I'll do it if this is the least headache endusing.

Yeah, they're open. I'm a big fan of Amazon. They haven't screwed up on me yet.

What! I just discovered that it's only out in January 2013!

I was going to pre-order it... but paying for something half a year in advance is not something I like to do. I hope I'll remember to pre-order it closer to launch.

Edit: also, I'm really really into Zelda at the moment. I spend a lot of time (at work) on the Zelda Universe forums. I'm finishing my unfinished Zelda games and I plan on replaying some others.
I really want the book right now... and not early next year.

Surely pre-ordering ASAP is the way to go if you know you really want it? Touch wood, it won't be completely sold out closer to release, but you never know with these kinds of things. The earlier the better.

Couldn't you pre-order it from Amazon or is that not available to you? They don't require any payment until the item is shipped. Even if you can't do that, it's better to be safe than sorry in a situation like this. For all we know, they could be all sold out before it's even released and then go for ridiculous prices on ebay. As sad as it is, there are plenty of people who're just in for the money they could potentially earn from re-selling multiple copies.

I just pre-ordered it from Amazon Germany (it's only 46th of all best-selling books there, 1st for English books though). If the item description is to be believed, it'll only be released in English across Europe.

Ah yeah you guys are right. I'll preorder it to make sure I'll get a copy. I didn't know I wouldn't be charged yet.
I guess getting it from Amazon.de is cheaper than Amazon.co.uk, but I'll have to check.

In the meanwhile, I'll be making papercraft models of Zelda stuff. Smilie Working on Majora's Mask right now!

Honestly I'm the other way around, I'd prefer they take the money as soon as I've placed a pre-order so I don't forget about it/don't have the funds available upon charge time. If money was an issue I wouldn't be buying said item in the first place....but since I want it I'd rather be charged NOW instead of forgetting about it & issues arise later down the road that prevent me from honoring payment.
