Final Professor Layton Adventure Heads to 3DS on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Today's Nintendo Direct conference dealt a double edged sword for Professor Layton fans - a new game that will be the last.

The series is due for a cross-over with Capcom's Phoenix Wright, and now will debut a new adventure on the 3DS - Choubunmei to A no Isan (which translates roughly to "Remains of an Advanced Civilisation"). Due in 2013, the new adventure will include a slew of new puzzles, make use of the 3DS's better tech and once again invite fans into a world of mystery and intrigue.

Despite the excitement of a new game, Level-5 CEO Akihiro Hino confirmed that it will be the final outing for series protagonist Hershel Layton, but the door is still open for a spin-off or two.

For now, the debut trailer from the latest Nintendo Direct presentation.

A lot of people seems to be under the impression that this is the final game of the series, when its actually just the final one that stars Layton as the main character.

I guess this means Level 5 will pull a Apollo Justice Ace Attorney move and make either Luke or Layton's ugly son the next main character.

Mmm, going from what some translations have said, this is the final game in the second trilogy, but not the last game in the series.
