US Won't Sell Additional GamePads at Launch

US Won

Japan will be selling additional Wii U GamePads at retail; however over in the US players will need to contact Nintendo support.

Speaking to Shacknews, NoA's PR director Marc Franklin confirmed that players won't be able to pick up additional GamePads at launch as it may cause confusion amongst general end consumers.

Your average Joe may assume a second pad would be needed, say in a family with two children, and there currently are no announced titles where it can can be used. These dual-GamePad titles may spur Nintendo to ship separate controllers at somepoint however. Those who accidentally break or lose their GamePads will have to pick up the phone to Nintendo it seems.

Regular Wii accessories - remotes, nunchuck, sensor bars etc will still be readily available in a myriad of colours.

Nintendo of Europe have yet to comment, but it'll likely be a similar affair.

I remember them saying in the Direct Conference that games that support 2 Pads won't be out for a little while, and additional Pads will be sold at retail when those kinds of games are released.

..Or something like that.

Yeah I don't see the point of selling them separately at launch when they'll just be useless until games actually use more than one (and one comes with all purchased systems...), unless it's as a replacement for the original being smashed to pieces XD.

Also, I'm guessing some of the first games allowing the use of an extra one would be sold in bundle, allowing us to save a few quids on the purchase of second one (After all, that's what Wii Play was all about for Wii ^^)

Won't really matter that much until games start using two.
