Will Super Mario Bros Wii U Run in Full 1080p?

Will Super Mario Bros Wii U Run in Full 1080p? on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Update:

Nintendo has removed the mention for "1080p" on the Official website - leading us to believe that the game could likely run in 720p rather than full HD.

Original Story:

It's one small step for gamers, one giant leap for the Mushroom Kingdom as Mario will step out in full 1080p on the Wii U this year.

Despite the new hardware being capable to output to full high definition resolutions, some publishers have opted for a lower, but still gorgeous, 720p for upcoming Wii U releases. Nintendo will be amongst the first to dabble in the 1920 x 1080 picture as New Super Mario Bros U has been confirmed on the official website to support it.

We can only imagine the possibilities of a full Mario Galaxy-esque platormer on the Wii U.

Be sure to read our hands-on preview with the game for more details.

Is your body ready for full high definition Mario Platforming?

Had a feeling Nintendo would make this run in 1080p. Great to see that Nintendo are using full HD for one of their first games on the Wii U. Not that I'm entirely bothered about 1080p as I will probably run in 720p as my TV only supports up to 1080i and 720p is the best option.

Not exactly sure what Nintendo was running the game on in our post-E3 playthrough, but the game does really look great. I was thinking "hmm - just would look like a sharper version of the Wii game", but truly it makes all the difference in person.

Fluid, crisp, just bigger and more stunning despite the same art direction as before. Really impressed!

Glad to know you enjoyed the game, I'm quite looking forward to playing it myself, though I might ask for it as a Christmas present to save me some money. Smilie

1080i is a higher res than 720p so unless your tv has a native res of 720 lines, you want 1080i - LCD can't do interlaced so it sorts things out to be quasi-progressive scan even from an interlaced source.

Really? I always thought progressive ran smoother than interlaced, first time I've heard this. Thanks for that.

Reported now that it may not actually be 1080p.

I did think it was a bit odd that it was suddenly apparently 1080p. Nintendo had continuously said none of their upcoming games will be 1080p, so sounds like it was just a human error in the write up of the game.
