Wii U Epic Mickey Players Forced onto Gamepad, Wii Remote for Co-Op Play on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

New details for the Wii U-specific version have emerged, including a lack of off-TV play.

The game does boast a more varied mission mode, with a more convincing narrative, with the Wii U edition including various additional tidbits compared to the Wii and multiplatform versions.

The GamePad itself acts as a world map with key points highlighted, plus an optional hotkey panel to perform certain moves/abilities with ease. Off-TV play won't be present in the game however, due to time constraints.

Those hoping to use the traditional Wii Remote and nunchuck from the original game will have to settle for the Wii edition, as the main/single player is forced to use the GamePad. The co-op/second player can use the remote/nunchuck.

You can't use the Wiimote in single player? Bizarre.. I thought that was an important part of Epic Mickey's control scheme regardless of controller-only versions. You'd just think that they'd allow Wiimote use for the WiiU version, especially if the PS3 version allows Move usage (which I'm assuming it does?)

Looks like I'll be getting the Wii version now. Smilie

Wasn't the first game pretty bad?

Not bad at all.. just not the AAA Mario killer it was supposed to be. A pretty unanimous disappointment after the astronomical hype. Supposedly the sequel's a lot better in many aspects but I'll be waiting for reviews.. atm it sounds like the Wii version will surprisingly be the definitive version, visuals aside of course.

I wasn't going to get this version anyway, it's not made by Junction Point

It's delayed in France

"Epic Mickey 2 is going to make Wii U launch in most of Europe, minus France. It appears that Epic Mickey 2 on Wii U is going to get a French dub for that part of Europe. That's going to take some time, pushing the release back to Spring 2013."

I'm surprised they didn't delay the whole EU release... that's what they usually do if they have to translate.

I wonder how many French players will get the English version instead. Maybe they'll finally learn some proper English from this game! Smilie

I hated wii mote controls during first game. That was the reason why I hated Wii. Glad to know Wii U is not requiring wiimote to play EM 2. Pro controller would still be better than gamepad though.

....According to IGN

- Oswald's powers are based more around mechanics and electricity
- Game requires cooperation to succeed
- Certain enemies are more vulnerable to different power sets
- Puzzles will require both players to complete
- Working with an AI partner seems to face some issues in the most current demo
- Camera issues still crop up
- Surfaces have a very slippery nature
- Camera often sits too low
- No plans for Pro controller support

... basically all the things I disliked about the first game.

The first game was a broken mess, warren spector says the sequel fixes a lot of the issues. It'll be interesting to see what the reviews are like. It seems like they're rushing it though, so I won't hold my breath

They won't, they usually call to a boycott when a game isn't even localised to French. Happened with Tales of the Abyss on 3DS.
