Figures from the US research group NPD have confirmed a drop in sales across all formats during November.
Despite the release of key franchises like Microsoft's Halo 4, the extremely popular Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and of course Nintendo's own high profile Wii U launch in the US, figures were reported to be 11% down on the year previous.
The stats have excluded downloads from digital markets like Nintendo's eShop, Steam and mobile phone app stores. NPD suggest the the slight decline would be due to games outside the top 5 selling less then they might have done in previous years.
Overall entertainment software units decreased by 15%, however, when comparing the performance of the top five titles from this year to last, we see a rise in unit sales of 5% - games outside of the top five sold less, leading to overall declines.
