Nintendo Confirms The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker for Wii U - First Screenshots on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Amongst all the news of Mario and co came a surprise announcement from Nintendo today: The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker for Wii U.

Series producer Eiji Aonuma explained that the studio are hard at work crafting a new ground-up Legend of Zelda experience that "redefines the conventions of Zelda", but also revealed a surprise game to keep fans satisfied in the interim.

It's very difficult to type with such excitement - The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker is heading to Nintendo Wii U in re-imagined high definition graphics this fall.

The game will of course also include Miiverse integration, GamePad-only play, together with additional enhancements while players wait for a ground-up Legend of Zelda on Wii U.

Aonuma also revealed a handful of images to get an idea of how the GameCube classic will now look spruced up on the Nintendo Wii U.

I am excited but I really wanted either ocarina or Majoras mask in HD, especially Majoras Mask. I have almost forgotten how that game plays out and I was never a fan of the large sea and tiny islands.

Looks gorgeous. Cannot wait!

I LOVE NINTENDO. There I said it.

Iwata and Aonuma can have my number for a megaton threesome.

Thank you, Based Iwata.

Wow looks tons better at first glance.

Comparing these screens, I didn't think gc windwaker looked that drab! The Wii U version is so vibrant and awesome!

lickable, thats how good it looks. That and Monolithsofts RPG is one hell of a double whammy!

These screens make the original look bad in comparison...and that's one game that aged incredibly well! I had a 3-heart Challenge planned in The Wind Waker for this year, so this comes at a perfect time! Just imagine how the new Wii U Zelda might look, if it features a style even remotely as fantastic as this one.

Please let the 'additional enhancements' part refer to fixing up the Triforce Hunt.

Either way, looks gorgeous. This is one HD remake I really didn't think Nintendo would do.

Just added new screenshots from Nintendo - the game simply looks great, really solid lighting, bright and vivid. Awesome stuff, and this year too. WOW.

Hoping they'd have added those supposedly missing dungeons that weren't able to be included the first time round.

Come on, it's really not as bad as many are trying to make it out to be. If you know what the hell you're doing, like people like us who have already played it should, it doesn't take long at all including obtaining the required Rupees. Just steamroll through the 50 floors of the Savage Labyrinth and you'll have them in no time at all.

He said new direction. next zelda not just single player? Ww reborn will do till then. Ww the only console zelda I aint completed( all that sailing)

Heh, personally I didn't mind it, when doing so lets you explore more of that beautiful world. Smilie

That said, I'd much rather have those 2 dungeons restored to the game in its place if given the choice. Smilie

Good, good. Smilie You're excused.

I'd love to see the missing content too, if that's possible without changing too much of the rest of the overall game and story.

I've been DYING to replay Wind Waker. THIS is definitely a PERFECT way to replay this phenomenal game! Smilie

I personally prefer the original art syle/visuals, these look a bit vibrant, sour and cold in comparison. I liked the warmth of the original. Plus I find it looks like one of those fan-mad type projects. I don't know, it just looks like it's lost it's charm to me. That's just my opinion though.

I hope this remake has an orchestrated soundtrack, it'd be a missed opportunity otherwise. The Great Sea performed by an orchestra at the concerts is one of the best pieces of music I've ever heard.

I hope Tetra's Trackers is included

Oh My Gaaawd!!!
I WANT THIS BAAAADLY!!! Smilie

It looks amazing sun, shade and amazing HD Link face expressions!!!

I see all these people insulting the Nintendo corporation because of the lack of mature content. Yet there is something about Nintendo (at least their games) that strikes a certain unadulterated feeling of joy!!!  Pokemon Y - 1048-9263-5562

I see what you mean - it's perhaps a little bright or Nintendo Land-esque in design now rather than the lightly saturated look, might be more appealing in motion/other areas like dungeons though.

Still, think it looks ace Smilie

hu? Those characters arnt flat-shaded any more :-/
Thats not a improvement Smilie
Landscapes are ok, but I dont see this as stylisticaly better at all. They should have gone more towards the cartoon style - even used that nice "textured" look from the manual and concept art.
urg.

That said, I wouldnt have got this anyway as HD remakes dont interest me, but I certainly approve of these games being avaliable for new players. MM and TP next please.
Then Eternal Darkness.

I want a game in this style:

Remember these are only early screenshots. Mockups even maybe.

I also hope Nintendo will bring back that typical TWW look/shading. The characters here just look a bit wrong.

I fricken knew it!!! I made a mock up image many months ago of a Zelda Wind Waker remake for WiiU and here it is. My first reason to get a WiiU.

Personally, I think it looks AMAZING. This and the rest of the Wii U Direct stuff really brightened up my terrible day. Thank you once again, Nintendo! Smilie

Looks fine to me. The light changes during the day, at it's mid-day peak it does look like this.
