Nintendo has confirmed multiplayer features in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, local and online included, with the debut Nintendo 3DS trailer and spooky new screenshots.

The features were outlined in the Japanese magazine Famitsu earlier with this week, but now Nintendo have made it official -  The feature is called Hunter Mode, where different coloured Luigi team up together in a bid to hunt down ghosts in a large tower known as the ScareScraper before the clock runs out.

There'll be a number of floors depending on the difficulty - from 10 to as high as 25 - together with challenging boss battles at the very top. Up to four ghost hunters can join in the action either locally or over the internet and revive fallen teammates to keep the action flowing.

One levels have been conquered, players can grab hold of bonuses depending on their current performance, so better get those ghosts and ghouls as quick as possible!

Finally for those who want to brave it alone, the entire Hunter mode can be taken on solo.

To see how it all works, the debut trailer for the Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon multiplayer, plus a handful of new snaps.

My thoughts depend on whether it has voice-chat, without, it could prove frustrating.

Looks cool. Awesome with Download Play and online.

Actually, it looks like a really good idea. Maybe there'll come a day in 20 years time when we'll be doing something like this in a permanent, 24/7 persistent online world. A creepy house the size of British Isles with 10,000 players. You'd walk around for a few hours and maybe encounter another player or two.

Woah, that's so much better than I excpected! I can't believe Nintendo kept quiet about this for so long.

Recently I've been more and more impressed by the 3DS games. First Fire Emblem, now this... as soon as a new Zelda launches, I'll finally need a 3DS.

Sounds great to me, really wasn't expecting multiplayer at all in this one - Nintendo done good Smilie Really should become standard practice in future Nintendo games - even ones considered single player like Mario or Zelda, for example.

jb, maybe, but I don't want some of them to go *too* far to the multiplayer side like DQ9 did. As much as I loved it in its own right, I thought single player got diluted as a result of going multiplayer. Worth noting.
