Unused Wind Waker (GC) Concept Art Might Be Glimpse into Wind Waker HD on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

We've all heard tale of the dungeons and areas that were cut from the final version of The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker on the Nintendo Gamecube. Until now, though, we haven't seen what any of those areas looked like.

Well, behold two unused islands:

Gamecube Island is an island shaped like... well, a Nintendo Gamecube. Given the passing of that venerable system, it's unlikely this concept would see a rebirth in Wind Waker U. Of some greater interest is Stovepipe Island, a massive looking landmass, with buildings and a mysterious "Enter From Here?" tag at the top of the volcano. Could this one of the cut dungeons?

Whether Stovepipe Island sees a return or not, we're hoping Nintendo puts some real effort into Wind Waker U. We've always felt it to be just a step away from being one of the best Legend of Zelda games ever made.

Just have to wait and see how they make this game... I love WW so much I am concerned they might ruin it's charm for the HD edition. Maybe they just should have made an HD version of the original for the GC VC on the eShop....

I thought the gamecube island was in the game. Or was it the DS island. There was definately an island based on a console in the game.

Edit: wind waker is number 3 3d zelda. A masterpiece. After ocarina and majora.

I would like to put majora top. It is pretty much my favourite game but it kind of doesn't make sense to put it above ocarina which is also my favourite game.

The three of them though are a cut above anything else. They are (or were at the time) in different league.

because WW is also my fave ever game I would say "if they fuck this up" but they won't. Can't wait.

TP is also brilliant especially dual hookshots and that amazing dragon boss and SS is great too but TP was slightly ruined by the horrendous decision to put it on wii and games like resi 4 had started to come out by the time TP came out and honestly though I'm reluctant to admit it there are some very good games this gen and SS is only as good as quite a lot of brilliant games from this gen.

It's a shame but zelda isn't in it's own league anymore it's in the same league now as dead space and monster hunter and dark souls (which is actually a bit ropey and not that hard at all but totally charming and old school and brilliant) and many other good games.

DRAGONS DOGMA! play that shit. Get on it.

You're thinking of the DS island in Phantom Hourglass. I really liked that one, got a kick out of it. Phantom Hourglass is still one of my favorites, even though some people hated it.

I never finished phantom hourglass which is SHOCKING.

I am ashame.

There's no video game police. You don't have to finish everything! =p

Most people complain about the Temple of the Ocean King. Personally I liked it. It was like a big puzzle.

Don't get me wrong is was fine it was a good game but I had too much to play in those days.

To my shame the last handheld zelda I completed was oracle of ages which only makes 2 handheld zeldas: ages and links awakening, I nearly finished seasons and minish cap but I barely scratched phantom hourglass and didn't even touch spirit tracks.

There may not be videogame police but I have certain personal standards to which I aspire.

HOW CAN I SHOW MY FACE? THE GALL OF IT. THE OBNOXIOUS GALL OF IT. SCUM. I AM SCUM.

Harakiri. There is only one way to regain my honour. I will now perform harakiri, I will not accept the shame any longer and can only offer my disemboweled corpse in vainglorious apology.

I must apologise even for the inadequacy of my apology and for my vanity for I know my death is but nothing, does nothing but pale in comparison to the magnitude of my, filthy, disgusting, grubby abberation.

EDIT: I was boss at dark souls though, totally mashed it. perhaps it goes some way towards at least some meagre redemption?

Ive been reading the book since I came home from work!! Smilie

I was shocked to find out that Skyward Sword is suppose to be the first game in the series!?! Smilie
And WW Link is suppose to be an Adult and Link from Twilight Princess is Child Link?! Saaaayyyy whaaaat.....

I see all these people insulting the Nintendo corporation because of the lack of mature content. Yet there is something about Nintendo (at least their games) that strikes a certain unadulterated feeling of joy!!!  Pokemon Y - 1048-9263-5562

Where are you reading that? In each instance I can see, WW Link is referred to as a "boy," and I can't see any mention of TP Link being Child Link from OoT.

Think he was refering to the timeline split after OOT...

He was talking about the Links, but I think he's just misinterpreted things, since I've given it a proper read. WW Link is a kid and Child Link from OoT/MM is most definitely a completely different Link to the one in TP. I'm sure Zapp will see that if he gives it a further read.

To clarify, is Wind Waker HD going to be a download/VC release or is this being sold as a standard Wii U game? I thought it was the former, if it's the latter, like hell am I paying full price for a re-hash. I am absolutely sick of the way Nintendo particularly handle these things. As far as I'm aware, OoT and other such re-releases generally don't get much treatment besides the bare minimum, essentially what makes it passable in current gen terms. It will be interesting to see how far Nintendo push WW for Wii U in terms of what they do with it - they are kind of setting a precedent here, as I'm sure this won't be the only re-release we see during the system's life span.

It's been said before as well, but it's an interesting one.. Wind Waker hasn't aged badly at all. Experiencing it in HD will be great, but I can't help thinking.. am I actually that bothered? Those screens look amazing, and I'm sure these visual upgrades will 'change' the experience on their own - but the game still feels very vivid in the memory. HD joy is not enough really. Assuming this will be touted as a full game and priced thusly.

It's not a VC game, it's an actual Wii U release. So don't expect £15 or less prices (£15 being the max I'd think GC VC games would be). GameStop is already taking pre-orders for $60...

But don't assume that's final and that it'll still be the same RRP as other brand new games. We honestly don't know if Nintendo intends to release this as a budget title, or whether it'll be adding additional content that may warrant prices of a normal new game.

In an ideal world, even if it is a remake with new content, it really shouldn't be £40 retail over here. I'd like to see it at £20-£25, maybe £30 at max. But honestly, since Ocarina 3DS still sells at ~£30, really wouldn't surprise me to see this released full price.

We honestly have no clue about how big of a 'remake' this really is yet, though, and so we'll just have to wait and see. But since it's not a Virtual Console game, it's immediately not going to be as cheap as you're expecting it to be.

@Azuardo

Oh yes. I have only gone through the timeline from web sites that got it from the book. But yeah, he will just ahve to read on as will I when it hits the shops here in Norway  (if taht ever happens).

TWW was one of most worst zeldas for me. Looked amazing but didnt have much substance too it.

However, I do agree it could be the best 3d zelda with a bit more work. If it gets, say, 3 more dungeons, and the sailing becomes more interesting thats pretty much all my critisms gone.

Phantom Hourglass fixed a lot of TWWs problems, but then introduced a lot of its own too. Hopefully they can learn from that and take a few of its best bits.
(and yes, it did have a DS island)

On the timeline split it said Adult Link ~ Child Link ...and TP Link was on the child Link side while WW Link was on the adult side...!
I haven't had time to properly sit down and go through page to page thoroughly coz I've been busy with work but from the quick glance I had the other day thats the impression I got!

I suggest you give the chronology section a read then : )

The timeline shows the order of the games. It doesn't mean they are the same Links. TP takes place after MM in the OoT Child Link timeline; WW takes place after OoT in the OoT Adult Link timeline. The Links in OoT/MM, TP and WW are all different. Only very few of them are the same in other games (ALttP Link for example is in four games).

No Azuardo I'm not disputing that... I know the Links are different!!! Smilie
What I'm trying to say is that I never thought of Link from Wind Waker as an adult.. in my head he was a child!! But now that I think about it he has a younger sister!!
And Link from Twilight Princess is suppose to be a child ...which again in my head I always thought of him as an Adult!!
I hope im making sense...Smilie

OK, so you know they are different Links.

But why are you assuming WW Link is an adult? He's not. It doesn't say he is an adult in either the game or the book.

Likewise, TP Link isn't a child.

You're mis-reading the timeline data.

When it says "Child Link" and "Adult Link" in the timelines, it's referring to the continuation of OoT Child Link's time after he goes back in time at the end of OoT and goes on to Majora's Mask, and the continuation of the OoT Adult Link time once he defeats Ganon.

It's saying that TP happens in Child Link's timeline and WW happens in Adult Link's timeline.
