The developers of Wii U eShop puzzle platformer Toki Tori 2 have revealed the reasons for the game's delay, which saw it missing release before Christmas.
On Two Tribes' website, the team talks about new puzzle ideas cropping up just days before Toki Tori 2 was due to be submitted to Nintendo for its pre-Christmas release. But with new puzzles being added so late on, it became clear that it was unnecessary to be pushing for a Christmas release when they were under no pressure from any publisher to get the game out in time. After telling Nintendo they wouldn't be meeting the deadline, Two Tribes was happy to learn of Nintendo being so supportive and understood the team's goals.
Upon going back and replaying the game through, Two Tribes believed Toki Tori 2 to be "very ugly" and would not have been able to ship it in the state it was in. Through the following weeks of testing, more problems came up. In this time, a number of improvements and changes have been made to the game.
In their desire to create a more open world game, it was deemed to be a "design nightmare" and would have been hard for novices to understand. The various paths and open world aspect still remains intact, but is now much more user-friendly for beginners. Graphics were improved drastically, adding in more artistic backgrounds to give a feel for where players are during the game, and frames per second have been increased from 30 to 60, much to the team's delight.
A lot of testing has been undergone, with Two Tribes getting feedback from people that have had day-long sessions with the game to "ensure everyone will have a great experience."
