Rayman Legends Confirmed for PS3 and Xbox 360; Wii U Version Delayed Until September on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Ubisoft has confirmed today that the previously Wii U exclusive 2D platformer Rayman Legends will be coming to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013. The Wii U version of the game has also been delayed until the same month. Developer Ubisoft Montpellier is handling the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions, too.

Ubisoft said it had many requests from PlayStation and Xbox fans to be able to play the sequel to the well-received Rayman Origins, and decided it was best to give the fans what they wanted, whilst "at the same time broadening the audience exposed to this innovative and memorable game."

This comes off the back of Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge being confirmed yesterday to be released on PS3 and Xbox 360 in April.

The rights are still owned by SEGA though...its just being published by Nintendo, i am not sure about the development being funded by Nintendo...

Platinum put out statements saying that it's funded almost entirely by Nintendo. SEGA cancelled the game earlier that year because they simply do not have the funds for it.

SEGA's in a really bad way atm, they couldn't port or publish Bayonetta 2 even if they wanted to.

Fair enough, i guess it depends on how far the term "publisher" goes these days...i still thought that the IP's etc would still be owned by SEGA though...

Indeed, SEGA owns Bayonetta's IP, so Bayonetta 2 is a 3 way effort between Nintendo, SEGA, and Platinum. Platinum developing, Nintendo funding/publishing, and SEGA is taking an "advisory" role apparently, probably not a very big role, they're not really required in the game's development besides their IP rights.

Still, since Nintendo is technically paying for the game's existence there's probably some legal reason SEGA can't just give the result of Nintendo's financial contribution to competitors. If it was put on other systems, I imagine a further agreement with Nintendo would be necessary.

Simply disgusted right now, and not just by the news itself...

Apparently, this is from a member of the Rayman Legends development team that posts on Spanish forum EOL. Translated to English:

I completely understand you but you have to understand one thing. This is not a decission taken by the development team, this comes from really really high up, so please don't pick on the game.

If you're pissed, imagine how we feel. Think on the situation, we've been making overtime with this game practically since May preparing E3, and then almost a demo per month (gamescon, Wii U presentation, shops, eShop, etc...) and at the same time trying to actually finish the game. We had a first delay because it was obvious we couldn't finish on time but we gave it all to be there on February. What face do you think we had when the week we had to close the game we're being told it's not going to be released? I couldn't believe it.

For practical matters, you'll have to wait for some months for the game to be released and will most likely serve for more content to be added and do it better. For us, this means we've spent 6 months barely seeing our wifes, kids, and friends for nothing because, after all, such a haste wasn't needed. Believe it, it was a hell to swallow these news.

Even then I'm firm in what I said back in the day, Rayman Legends is an excellent game and will still be, and the team that's making it doesn't deserve to have your back turned on them just because some men in ties one day took a wrong choice. This industry is really that shitty

Just sounds like a total dick move by Ubi. You don't think about people like this, who work their asses off. I know game development is pretty rough, so I can believe how pissed these guys would be feeling at this delay. I don't get why they couldn't just get the Wii U game out now. Makes no sense.

Thanks for posting that, Azuardo. I feel bad for the developers who worked so hard. Plus, it seems to confirm that the Wii U version is basically finished and only being delayed to release at the same time as the other versions which is simply unfair to fans.

A lot of people are posting their disgust/complaints about the situation on the UPlay Miiverse Community (most of the posts are complaints right now as opposed to actually discussing the service.). If you're on Miiverse post a complaint while you're there!

You know, I completely forgot about that. So hopefully this is one exclusive that actually stays exclusive.

The whole principal of the matter is what pisses me off, and it doesn't help that this crap has been going on since the GameCube days. If you say it's exclusive, keep it exclusive. If it's a timed-exclusivity deal, say so. Don't jerk us around and DEFINITELY don't delay it for no good reason when it's practically finished.

Honestly, I expected this BS from Capcom, but not Ubi. Capcom is one of the original and worst offenders. Anyone else remember the infamous "GameCube Five"?

Chance favors the prepared mind.

I can understand how that Capcom Five for the GameCube didn't work out in the end. I think they released 2 of them, right? And ported them to the other consoles a bit later? If the games didn't sell, it's stupid to keep trying.

But this is different. This is a brand new console in dire need of 3rd party support. Ubisoft has given nothing but praise about the Wii U since the beginning. They said Rayman Legends can't ever be ported, because of the unique U hardware.
Now they have a game that's probably better than Nintendo's own Mario platformer... and they delay it at the last moment? For 7 months? Absurd. A kick in the nuts.

I feel quite sorry for Nintendo, who have lost one of their only system sellers for Q1.

If Aliens: CM turns out to be bad, the Wii U might not sell many consoles these coming months...

I was just about to say, "Next - Bayonetta 2". Just wait. Mark my words. It WILL happen.
Bayonetta 2 is Nintendo funded, so no - it won't happen.

Sega does not, Bayonetta is wholy a PG IP. Sega only own publishing rights for the first game, nothing more.

I bought into the Capcom Five...well I think it turned out being 4, i can't remember the other game they released but i quite enjoyed PN03 (although i think i was the only one) , Viewfiful Joe was great and so was Resident Evil 4. I had Killer 7 but i remember returning it because i didn't find it all too great. I'm fairly certain all of those games got ported to the PS2 and Xbox anyway...so i think they were just timed exclusives...

Besides timed exclusives always feel like I am going to miss something when they release extra features on the other platforms!

The 5 were as follows :

-Resident Evil 4 (got ported to PS2, with extra features, but much longer load times and graphics not as crisp as on GC)
-Viewtiful Joe (got ported to PS2, with Dante from Devil May Cry as a bonus playable character. Looked mostly the same from what I remember, but load times a tad longer)
-Killer 7 (as far as I know, both versions were identical in looks and content, but as usual, load times were slower on PS2).
-PN03 (remained exclusive to the Gamecube)
-Dead Phoenix (Unreleased)

None of those was ever released on XBox.

That makes sense as to why i can't remember the 5th then.

At the end of the day i can't blame a developer for porting their games over to other consoles. At the end of the day they could do with the extra money to stay afloat, and its not exactly as if Nintendo consoles are the "home" of Rayman...although i know this isn't the gripe anyway.

If Microsoft do have such a deal in place then I can only commend them for making such a smart stipulation!
