2013: The Year of Luigi
Mario's quirky brother is the star of the show this year, says Nintendo. Not content with being the other Brother, Luigi will make various appearances this year including a starring role in Luigi's Mansion 2.- Nintendo talked about the spooky Nintendo 3DS title Luigi's Mansion 2 ahead of it's release, described by creator Shigeru Miyamoto. - Want more of Mario's RPG side? Nintendo announced Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, with a snoozing Luigi as the main highlight - the entire game takes place within Luigi's bizarre mind. Watch the trailer »
- Alongside Luigi's Mansion 2, the plumber will also star in his very own 2D platformer. Nintendo confirmed that New Super Luigi U will be a full DLC expansion pack to Wii U release New Super Mario Bros. U, featuring 80 levels designed just for Luigi.
New Mario Games for Nintendo 3DS
Whilst a lot of the focus did go into Luigi, there will be more first party Mario releases on Nintendo 3DS this year - two new favourites, together with Mario & Luigi: Dream Team.
- One of the more popular Mario sporting franchises Mario Golf returns in Mario Golf: World Tour to tee off this summer. Large 3D courses and your favourite Mushoom Kingdom stars return. Watch the trailer »
- Mario and Donkey Kong is also set to make its mark on Nintendo 3DS with Mario and Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move as an eShop release, together with classic mechanics and a new level editor. Watch the trailer »
Hello, Donkey Kong!
It's an all-star Nintendo roster this year as well-loved simian Donkey Kong is insisting on strutting his platformer abilities on Nintendo 3DS. A remake of Wii game Donkey Kong Country Returns will be pounding and swinging on the console later this year, together with ground-up 3D effects and design.Watch the trailer in 3D on the Nintendo 3DS eShop.
New Trailers & Release Dates
Key releases were also detailed and confirmed this year, including LEGO City Undercover: The Chase Begins and Animal Crossing: New Leaf.- The eagerly awaited Animal Crossing: New Leaf for Nintendo 3DS has finally gotten release dates in Europe (June 14th) and North America (June 9th). - Nintendo also talked about Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate for Nintendo 3DS, due for release this March, discussed by producer Dave Cox. Watch the trailer »
- LEGO fans can get their fix on Nintendo 3DS through the LEGO City prequel, a completely different story from the Wii U edition. Watch the trailer »
- Etrian Odyssey IV as confirmed for a Spring release in Europe. The challenging dungeon crawler has a demo on the North American eShop to sample the labyrinthine dungeons.
Nintendo 3DS eShop Releases
The eShop is the perfect place to grab full gaming experiences from both major and indie studios. Nintendo confirmed a handful of new games to download this year.- Splash or Crash (Kersploosh! for US readers) finds you throwing objects like stones and balls inside a well in a bid to make it to the bottom, avoiding obstacles with quick reflexes. - Dillon's Rolling Western: The Last Ranger was also revealed, featuring the familiar village defence gameplay as the original with new friends and objectives. Watch the trailer »
- The action-heavy Code of Princess was also confirmed for a European release on the 3DS eShop this Spring. Watch the trailer »
- HarmoKnight, a rhythm game from the creators of Pokémon, has been confirmed for a North America release on March 14th.
Hardware Bundles & Software Offers
- Monster Hunter will receive various hardware bundles for new players to get started when Monster Hunter 3: Ultimate arrives in Europe on 22nd March.
- Europe will also receive an exclusive Fire Emblem 3DS XL bundle on 19 April.
- Nintendo fans who buy a new Nintendo 3DS XL with Luigi's Mansion 2 or Pokémon Mystery Dungeon in North America can claim a free selected game as a download.
- Nintendo also announced weekly eShop sales, starting with The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time in Europe.
Other Announcements
- Nintendo also launched Wii Street U as a limited-time free download on the eShop.
- Nintendo also launched a new Miiverse Community dedicated to The Legend of Zelda. Fans can discuss current releases and future titles in development like The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker for Wii U.
