60Hz Version of F-Zero Comes to Nintendo Wii U eShop in Europe Tomorrow

60Hz Version of F-Zero Comes to Nintendo Wii U eShop in Europe Tomorrow on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

After a huge backlash from fans regarding the release of the slower, bordered 50Hz version of Balloon Fight on the Wii U Virtual Console a few weeks back, it seems as if Nintendo Europe has listened to its fans. Super NES racer F-Zero will be released on the eShop tomorrow in its original 60Hz glory, granting European Wii U owners the chance to play the game in its intended format at full screen and with no reduction in speed.

Despite being a Super NES title, F-Zero is being released as part of the 30th anniversary celebrations of the NES console, and will be available to purchase tomorrow for just 30 pence.

It's unknown if the 60Hz release of F-Zero means all future Virtual Console titles on Wii U will get the same treatment, but hopefully this will be the case.

Yay! I was going to buy it anyway, but 60Hz is awesome! I'm glad Nintendo listened. We shall all shower them in love on Miiverse!

Positive move, It makes a big difference in this and Super Mario Kart, SF versions were clearly superior.

It wouldn't have made any difference for Super Mario Kart, it was optimized for 50Hz in Europe, the Wii U releases lack the black borders and the sound is never slowed down on SNES games due to the sound chip running independently from the CPU in the original hardware.

Actually the PAL version of SMK runs 3 or 4% faster than the NTSC one (or any small percentage along those lines) because in speeding it up so that it would match the speed of the NTSC 60Hz version while running in 50Hz... They sped it up a little too much Smilie.

However as a result, the controls were a notch more responsive in the PAL version, which means the karts were a bit harder to control if you were used to the NTSC level of response (the speed at which the karts turn).

I've had both versions for fifteen years... The pal release still runs slower, you only have to look at NTSC time trials to see evidence of this. The difference in speed is particularly noticeable on sand and grass terrain.

Yay! Very happy about this! It shows that Nintendo do listen! Now people do have to shower them with love on Miiverse.

I wouldn't get excited yet, there's a full library of VC games that deserve the same treatment.

if its anything like the wii they update around 2 o clock

First the Rayman Challenge Demo and now this. Miiverse has to be one of the best things Nintendo has done in years. Smilie

Apparently the eShop gets updated around 16:00 Dutch time. That's in 55 minutes!

I'm really looking forward to F-Zero. I own it on cartridge, but I never really played it that much. I did beat F-Zero Maximum Velocity, which is quite similar.

It's odd, I already see F-Zero but no Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate and apparently Trine 2 demo according to the news entry for this week's additions.

3DS eShop is updated in the UK. Catslevania Demo, Monster Hunter Demo, and Nightsky are mine. Smilie

Edit: As is the WiiU eShop. First time ever I've got everything on the download schedule I think. Smilie
