The Witness Indie Wii U Release is Unlikely on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

PlayStation 4 indie title The Witness appearing on Nintendo Wii U is unlikely, according to developer Jonathan Blow.

Speaking to Kotaku this week, Blow explained that the project was initially considered to be released on a console alongside PC, and shifted towards a PS4 release due to the "relatively low system specs" of the PS3 and Xbox 360.

But what about Nintendo Wii U? Whilst there could be a possibility for a port after the PS4 release, Blow notes that "The Wii U still has pretty low system specs, so it came down to a choice between the next Microsoft console or the next Sony console."

For those unfamiliar with the project, The Witness is an exploration / puzzle hybrid that takes place on an uninhabited island. Take a look:

What do you think of The Witness project? Could and should it come to Nintendo Wii U?

Sorry Jonathon, but that isn't my understanding at all.  Graphically in particular (which it appears is much of this game) Wii U has a great chip (better than PS4's).  If there is an issue, I'd chalk it up to inefficient programming.  Talk to developers of Need for Speed Most Wanted, if you have doubts.

It sounds like their only experience with development on Wii U is...reading internet rumors.

From the video, it looks like the game will be a graphic tour-de-force, rivaling Crysis 3 for sheer technical & graphical brilliance

Good, fuck The Witness.

I thought it was already announced for the Wii U, unless I'm mistaken or something.

He's talking about exclusively coming to one of the consoles first. He chose the PS4 for that.

He's mentioned on a number of occasions that it'd likely come to the Wii U later and the 360/PS3.

First of all-this game looks tailor made for the Wii U's gamepad. Why would you not cater it to the Wii U instead of the PS4? I mean just seeing how the puzzles are drawn out, I don't get why this is a PS4 game. The Wii U has way more possibilities for a game like this than PS4. Moreover, the Wii U will have an installed base of about 6-8 million by the time the PS4 and Xbox 720 is released.

Secondly this game looks like it could be done on an Xbox 360 graphically. The Wii U is more powerful than PS3 and Xbox 360 and this has been confirmed now, as being Next Gen. Even chipworks says what they know is that the system is more powerful than Xbox 360 and PS3, with at least 100GB of extra bandwidth, and they still don't know what 30% of the silicon does. This has led people to believe that the Wii U is actually hiding reserve power. Though it sounds silly, it is not without possibility. After Microsofts release of the Xbox 720, if the Wii U did have hidden reserves a power, this would likely draw in the hardcore gamers, who are the only ones who care about those numbers.

Regardless, the Wii U...so far...is the most capable of what we know about the systems. No one else has offered a new way to play, but Nintendo.

Tsk, turn the draw distance down, reduce a bit of the follage if needbe.
If you cant make this sort of thing on the WiiUs specs (or, for that mater, the PS3/360), then you really have a badly coded engine.

If you dont have the budget, money or time, fair enough - but theres nothing that amazing in that footage.

Nintendo really needs to push their third party support more & be aggresive with their presence since devs like this either A: don't have the spine to do what's right for the sake of art & just want $$$. or B: Were never serious about video games when Nintendo was around & only support the "popular" systems

Unfortunately with every family that DOESN'T play Mario, Zelda ect. Nintendo looses more & more public presence & they don't ever realize it. Saturo Iwata messed up ALOT by drasticlly changing Nintendo's marketing scheme...& they're suffering for it & so are we unfortunately

It is not wise to speak on subjects you do not know all facts about, nor is it smart to judge a game based on looks alone. PSN: Nintendo_Gamer 3DS: 4296-3029-7422
