Nintendo Wii U Spring Update Details, Due Next Week on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

During Nintendo Direct today Satoru Iwata confirmed that the expected Spring Update is due to arrive next week.

The Nintendo president highlighted that the first of two major Wii U system updates is expected to launch during the week starting 22nd April. As well as addressing performance issues with the Wii U menus, the update will also include:

  • Being able to boot into Wii mode by holding the "B button" when loading the Wii.
  • Download and install software while the Nintendo Wii U is off
  • Support for Virtual Console, starting the day after the Wii U update, including off-TV play using the Wii U GamePad.
The performance update was detailed in a video last month.

B button ignition is good. I just hope it's fast.

The automatic installs and B Button Wii Menu switch are excellent additions. Would have been content with just the speed boost but those two as well will help the system a hell of a lot.

No it didn't? On the Wii, you had to stay on the Wii Shop Channel whilst downloading and installing new games/software.
