Hackers Claim Nintendo Wii U Disk/File System has been Broken on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Wii hackers have claimed that they have been able to break into the Wii U's disk encryption and Nintendo has responded.

The group beyond Wiikey posted an announcement on its website today proclaiming that they've "now completely reversed the WiiU drive authentication, disk encryption, file system, and everything else needed for this next generation K3y" with promise of an update soon.

The device is said to play standard back-ups but doesn't enable region-free access nor cheats and homebrew on the system.

With the Wii U primed for system updates, Nintendo "will use technology and will take the necessary legal steps to prevent the facilitation of piracy", the company said in a statement to Eurogamer today. "We have no reports of illegal Wii U games nor unauthorized applications playable on the system while in Wii U mode."

What are your thoughts on Nintendo Wii U hacking and the Wiikey device?

So, just piracy then.
Great. None of the good uses, only the "backups" -sigh-

Admitably, I am more wanting 3DS homebrew, but still...
