E3 2013 | Smash Bros Wii U, 3DS to Have Equal Roster - New Developer Video on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Super Smash Bros. legend Masahiro Sakurai has confirmed new details on the upcoming Wii U and 3DS versions in a Developer Direct.

Launching the Super Smash Bros. campaign at E3 today, Sakurai went into more depth after the premiere of the debut trailer. He confirmed that both versions will have an equal number of characters but stages will differ in some ways.

He then covered the currently announced roster, including improvements to Bowser, a new look for Samus plus more moves for Pitt. Moving onto the newly announced trio: Mega Man, Wii Fit Trainer and Animal Crossing Villager, these characters will each have a variety of different moves and abilities - different from the norm.

Mega Man can summon his moves from past boss battles, Villager is useful at collecting things - including projectiles - and Wii Fit Trainer dabbles in more physical moves.

Finally, Sakurai confirmed that he will be posting in the Miiverse community with new screenshots each week - so be sure to pop on and check for the latest Super Smash Bros. shots!

Equal rosters but maybe with different characters in each version?

Not sure about this... but it would be pretty cool! I'm still wondering if/how the 3DS and Wii U versions interact with each other.

Defintely a how rather than if - I think the roster will probably be the same for the most part.

Love this video, I was uncertain about the trailer but the footage with Mario Bowser standing there really does look impressive!

Now with the partnership between Sega and Nintendo, I hope Sonic will be coming back. And hopefully bringing Knuckles with him.

I can't grasp the concept that for the roster it's:

Balance+Connectivity= Roster having the "Less is More" philosophy.

18 characters isn't enough. There needs to be more.

What gave you the impression the game will only have 18 characters?
