E3 2013 | Mario Kart 8 Features 60fps Two Player Mode on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Hideki Konno, the producer of the Mario Kart series, recently discussed Mario Kart 8 in a Developer Direct video feature.

Anti-Gravity was the key new gameplay design unveiled during Nintendo Direct today, where racers can cling onto walls and even the ceiling in specially designed courses. There's a unique course that looks like a mobius strip, so the studio settled on "Mario Kart 8" as the title for the new game.

Konno confirmed that online play will continue the standards set in Mario Kart 7 - with communities and specific rules for Mario Kart enthusiasts, with a Mario Kart highlights reel to be shared on Miiverse in a "Mario Kart TV" area.

In terms of control, the producer confirmed that there'll be a plethora of schemes available - including Wii Remote (motion), Wii Remote + Nunchuck and of course the Wii U GamePad with both traditional and classic play available.

The team are aiming for 60fps steady in single and at least in two player mode.

Mario Kart 8 is "the grand culmination of past Mario Kart games" and is due Spring 2014.

Mario Kart at 60 FPS and Wind Waker in 1080p!

I'm really missing Pro controller support here. I just couldn't play MKW with any Wiimote setup and the GamePad just isn't right for my hands. I can play with it fairly well but when it comes to a game I'll spend a ridiculous amount of time on, I'm kinda worried. :/ I'm really hoping he just forgot to mention that option.

Pretty sure Pro controller will be supported. MKW supported like... everything. Don't see why they wouldn't include Pro controller support.

this may just get me to buy a wiiu. love mario kart! the game looks beautiful. heres hoping for 5 play local, homing blue shell (on ground), downloadable retro tacks, kart and character customisation, better bike vs kart balance, 9-volt and other wario ware characters as playable, better online ranking system and all previously playable characters from all games in the series, console and handheld
