Super Smash Bros. Wii U Single Player Will be Different to Subspace Emissary on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Super Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai has commented on the single player feature in the upcoming Wii U version of the game.

In an interview with Polygon last week, Masahiro Sakurai revealed that there will be a single player campaign mode, "but it won't be like the [Subspace Emissary] mode in Brawl."

Sakurai didn't go into specifics, but confirmed that the movies for characters will be unlocked to view from the very beginning, because the movie sequences from past Super Smash Bros. titles were posted onto the Internet and didn't "really become a gift for people who played the game."

The director is also hoping to address the balance between "hardcore" players and newcomers, with the game said to fall between Melee and Brawl.

What are your thoughts on the single player / Subspace Emissary mode in Brawl?

I enjoyed the subspace but it does become very repetitive and that's probably because the enemies and levels were just really dull. The cut scenes and story itself were pretty good but I am kinda glad their taking a different approach. Maybe have it similar to melee's but much more expanded, more Nintendo worlds as well as secret area's/battles, minigames etc. Can't wait to see what they come up with Smilie

Hope they introduce adventure mode from Melee again - more enemies from past Nintendo / third party games, maybe a few puzzles/platforming sections and of course more bosses from past games? A typical Zelda boss, a Kirby boss, Donkey Kong enemies etc. Lots of potential for a great solo player experience.

the story in brawl kinda felt like it just happened to have nitnendo characters in it rather than being about them... if that makes sense.... i wouldn't mind videos alot like megaman's reveal for each character, or maybe just some "day in the life of" videos.

So Nintendo don't want people to watch videos on YouTube....lost profits for them then...?

subspace was ok but it needed work like you had to do the story twice to unlock all scenes which depended on which princess you saved, that got very boring. however the multiplayer was great. if they made single player adventure more like melee where only certain character like luigi could be unlocked it would be perfect again. but add in a few things from subspace like the trophy stand.
