Year of Luigi? Nintendo Says Don’t Forget Mario! on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion
The Nintendo Direct conference is a great way for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U gamers to find out what they can look forward to seeing on the console in the coming months. The Satoru duo of Iwata and Shibata have spoken about a host of new titles, but here are a few Mario-centric games that definitely should be the focus of most gamers' attention.

Mario & Luigi: Dream Team Bros. (Nintendo 3DS)

The first game on the list is Mario & Luigi: Dream Team Bros., a surreal role-playing game that will be available from 12th July and could be a welcome arrival for those who have already played Luigi's Mansion 2 to completion. In this adventure, the brothers head to Pi'illo Island where a holidaying Peach has been kidnapped and dragged off to a dream world. Fortunately, Luigi can open up a portal to the other realm when he nods off on special cushions, allowing Mario to jump in and battle enemies. A snoozing Luigi is seen on the bottom screen of the Nintendo 3DS and can help the action in a number of different ways. Puzzle fans - including those who enjoy Professor Layton games - might also want to pick it up as there's a fair share of problem solving involved.

New Super Luigi U (Nintendo Wii U)

In the 'Year of Luigi,' this special release is a real treat for fans of Super Mario Bros. as it makes use of the same world map as the original title but gives 82 entirely new stages that players can navigate using Luigi. Satoru Iwata has promised it will play "like a brand new game" in which gamers will be able to take advantage of Luigi's unique abilities such as jumping higher and speeding along with his faster pace.

Mario Party (Nintendo 3DS)

The popular Mario Party series is set to make its return later this year on Nintendo 3DS. It will have a number of familiar features, such as rolling dice and taking part in enjoyable mini-games, yet there are some new elements included, too, such an increased emphasis on interaction with other players.

Mario Golf: World Tour (Nintendo 3DS)

Mario is quite the sports fanatic and from summer everyone will be able to get him to pick up his clubs once again. World Tour will allow for gamers to join others from around the globe to compete in tournaments. For those with a little less time on their hands, then an exhibition game can also be enjoyed. It promises a range of interesting features, such as banning special shots and only allowing players to use Luigi.

With so many big hitters released this year already, from Fire Emblem: Awakening and Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D on Nintendo 3DS to Game & Wario on Wii U, 2013 is already a fantastic year for Nintendo system owners. With this range of Mario games on the horizon, things are simply set to get better and better!

I wish they made a new Mario Party for Wii U instead of 3DS. And no, the Wii Party games are not nearly as charming as Mario Party.

Agreed on both levels! Want a traditional, controller based Mario Party (pre-8). Unfortunately I can't see Nintendo going down that route with Wii U any time soon. Would love a Mario Party Anniversary game - the best boards and 200+ classic minigames. Would be awesome!

To be honest most of the supposed "Year of Luigi games" are just Mario games with Luigi in them.
