Would Nintendo Release Eternal Darkness Digitally on the Wii U Virtual Console? on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Trademark sleuths have spotted an addition to the Eternal Darkness trademark currently held by Nintendo.

The original trademark, filed in 2010, covered the usual range of mediums including "computer game programs" and "video game software", a standard list of products for any franchise. However Siliconera spotted something quite intriguing about the latest Eternal Darkness trademark earlier today.

Still owned by Nintendo, this new trademark includes "downloadable electronic game programs" and "downloadable electronic game software", leading fans to speculate that Nintendo could be considering a digital/Virtual Console release in the future.

With Precursor Games developing the spiritual successor, a Nintendo Wii U release of the original game could very well be on the cards.

If they begin to release gamecube games on the VC that would make the Wii U much more appealing to me.

If they could get games like Mario Sunshine, Pikmin, Melee, Beyond Good and Evil, F-Zero, Rogue Squadrun II, and most of all Ikaruga, that would go a long way to filling any breaks between major new releases.

Would love gamecube games on the vc. Gamecube games already look fantastic, if nintendo upped the resolution to 1080p on all first party vc gamecube releases many would be surprised at how well graphically these games hold up against newer games. In some cases I have no doubt they would look better

Exactly games like Metroid Prime and Fzero GX look fantastic although i bet some have aged worse than you think.

I nearly rebought Eternal Darkness on eBay a couple months back amid all the hype back then, but then i realised that i wasn't a fan of the game...I think it would be great for its genre but I am just not interested. Likewise with Resident Evil 0 - 3 , i just can't get into them.

Either way I think Nintendo should perhaps have a talk with Precursor Games and redevelop the game into a successor for ED, quite like how Dinosaur Planet became the excellent Starfox Adventures (a GC game which looks amazingly beautiful even by today's standards Smilie )

Eternal Darkness is nothing like the Resident Evil games, FTY.  Both horror in a very lose sense, but gameplay and atmosphere pretty different.
