Carmack: Not Enough Wii U Interest for Doom 3: BFG Edition on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

John Carmack, co-creator of Doom, discussed Wii U development during a keynote speech at Quakecon this week.

Whilst discussing newer consoles, Carmack feels that the coming generation, which includes Wii U, Xbox One and PS4, will "last a long time", but feels its potentially the last of its kind.

He did note how he would love to develop for Nintendo 3DS, Wii U and Playstation Vita but it's "extremely unlikely to happen." Despite this, Carmack "always thought the Wii U and the Vita would be great targets for Doom 3:BFG. But there's not enough interest".

What are your thoughts on Carmack's comments - is there room for Doom on Wii U?

is there room for Doom on Wii U?

There's plenty of room for Doom on Wii U, just ask all the internet trolls. Smilie

Is it that he THINKS there's not enough customer interest....or is it that HE doesn't have enough interest in Nintendo? Cause I can tell you there's PLENTY of interest for games like Doom on the Wii U.

It's just a shame that devs like him lack the balls to do what's OBVIOUS & we get devs  like craptivition pumping out one CoD after another...

It is not wise to speak on subjects you do not know all facts about, nor is it smart to judge a game based on looks alone. PSN: Nintendo_Gamer 3DS: 4296-3029-7422

But there's not enough interest.

from you?

There needs to be a website where all Nintendo fans can literally vote on the series they'd want and buy... hmm...

That sounds like a good idea.

While Wii U sales are pretty dire, there are a lot of people who are prospecting purchase of one when the games arrive, it'll get a userbase eventually. Unfortunately for now, "not enough interest" is a pretty valid reason to not release a game for it.. but I just hope that they don't hypocritically stick to that reasoning in the future even if the console or any future Nintendo consoles become successful.

Nintendo's in a catch 22 at the moment I conquer. Devs won't make the high end third party games we want until more systems are sold....& non-experienced gamers/after Nintendo starters who don't have interest in Nintendo's first party games already won't buy the system until more third party support is present. : /

It's a vicious game of Tug-of-War that NOBODY wins...TnT

Such a voting website would be great, but it would need to be kickstarter like in that you were essentially placing a preorder with cash down. It's the best way to ensure votes transition into actual success.

Fair enough - I know I am not interested Smilie

Aww, I was getting my hopes up for it being released on the Wii U. I've been reading headlines for months that said the Wii U was 'doomed'.

Boom 3: BFG is - if I am not much mistaken - a stale rerun of Doom 3 with even older games put into the package - Doom 1 and 2, no?
If so, then I am glad, it doesn't come to Wii U, because it's another one of those born-dead games hoping to make some cheap bucks on Wii U with old games looking terrible. THAT DOESN'T WORK, it didn't work on Wii, it didn't work for the more or less new games released at launch-window like Mass Effect 3 and the like. It more or less worked for Assassin's Creed, because it wasn't that old when Wii U came out.

When will they ever learn?
Releasing games like this put Wii and Wii U in the position it is now regarding core games. Dammit!

I find your lack of faith disturbing!
