Famicom Bunko Heads to Nintendo Wii U In Japan Virtual Console on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Nintendo have launched Famicom Bunko: Hajimari no Mori, a text-adventure game, for the Nintendo Wii U Virtual Console.

Out today on the Wii U eShop in Japan, Famicom Bunko, which translates to "Famicom Pocket Books: Forest of Beginnings", was the only title in the planned series to release on Nintendo Power cartridges back in 1999.

The game was devised for the SNES and starred a young lad who visited his grandfather in the rural Kuzuonoki village over the summer. He befriends a girl and the pair go on mystical adventures in a text-based adventure with a handful of puzzles.

Due to the limited availability of Nintendo Power writable cartridges the title didn't sell as well as expected and unfortunately, a series was never born.

Would you like to see localised versions of classic Japan-only text adventure games?

If it's as good as the "soon-to-be-review-on-cubed3" Radical Dreamers for the Super Famicom Brodcast Satellaview System, then I certainly wouldn't mind seeing it localised personally, depending on how good it is. I like a good text adventure ^^.

To be honest, I'd like to see localised versions of classic Japan-only games in general. No matter the genre. The Virtual Console is a great chance to release games over in Western markets that never made it over before. Likewise, it's a great way to release games that were released in North America, but not in Europe and vice versa.

Nintendo have already done this to a minor degree, but hopefully they delve into it a bit more with the Wii U and 3DS VC platforms.
