Super Smash Bros. Wii U Adds Massive Damage Effects on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

On the brink of being pummeled off the stage in Super Smash Bros? There'll be new, brutal effects to show this.

The latest snap from the Wii U version of Super Smash Bros. posted on Miiverse shows Toon Link going a little too trigger happy on a poor, hapless Fox. Because Fox already pretty damaged, there'll be deadly red-black sparks eminating from his bruises. Owch!

This new effect, to be introduced in the upcoming release, kicks in "when you have high damage, so when you see this you're in trouble", said producer Masahiro Sakurai. "You're probably about to get KO'd", he exclaimed, presumably whilst recoiling back from a critical forward smash from Toon Link.

This effect reminds me of a certain game with a similar one but I can't quite put my finger on it...

Oh yeah, it does look similar to Soulcalibur.

Even if Nintendo didn't "created" the effect, it is a nice addition. This way you can see which character you should be attacking next.

Personally I think this is a great idea as it means when playing the game attacking other players on high dameag will be a whole lot harder whilst also a whole lot more fun.

Sounds like the developers on the team from NAMCO are leaving their mark on the development.

Exactly, a very arcadey addition to the game. I'm not sure i like this though, I sometimes like my friends not realising that i'm nearing the end of my life. This is going to increase 'Smash bullying'!
