Wii U Eclipsed by PS4 and Xbox One UK Launches on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Initial reports from the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 launches reveal a stark contrast compared to the Wii U's lifetime UK sales.

It's time for Microsoft and Sony's next-generation offerings as both publishers launched their latest hardware revisions last month. According to initial sales figures, both consoles have eclipsed the lifetime (full year) sales of the Wii U in just a matter of days.

The grim outlook for Nintendo was made more evident with the success of the PlayStation 4, which in itself sold 250,000 units in the UK in just one weekend - over 100,000 more than Nintendo had sold over the course of twelve months in the country.

Can the Wii U make any form of comeback in the UK given the initial success of its contemporaries?

I think we've known for a while now that the Wii U will be in 3rd place this gen, and the UK has always been a weak spot for Nintendo but still...

As long as interest is high enough to keep retailers on board, the Wii U will keep its head above water (I was pleased to see that the Wii U has more space dedicated to it than either the PS4 or XBox One at my local HMV and Game).
The long term prospects are not looking good though!

Ha! I called this months ago! I actually thought it would happen on launch day but close enough!
