The latest issue of the Official Nintendo Magazine quizzed Retro Studios and Nintendo on the relationship between the two companies.
Known for creating and developing the critically acclaimed Metroid Prime franchise, Retro Studios has had a solid relationship with Nintendo's teams in Japan over the years, with producers and development staff stepping into help with development.
Retro Studios president Michael Kelbaugh expressed how he feels the pair have a "a symbiotic relationship that consists of members from all over the world", revealing how there was one team working on Mario Kart 7, with the remaining staff putting together Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze.
Nintendo producer Kensuke Tanabe echoed Kelbaugh's comments, praising Retro Studios, teasing that "they might even work on a title that Miyamoto-san leads directly in the future." He went on to highlight how a "stimulating chemical reaction occurs" when two teams from different languages and cultures come together "under Nintendo's game production philosophy".
Would you like to see Retro Studios go deeper into the Nintendo-development chain, if so, what franchises would you like the team to work on?
