The developer of BLOK DROP U, Michael Aschenbrenner, recently discussed how the project came together using the Nintendo Web Framework.
The Nintendo-developed engine uses HTML5, together with Javascript, CSS and Nintendo's own APIs to create projects for Nintendo's system with minimal resources required for studios, or solo creators, to get started.
In an interview, Aschenbrenne notes how "most of the code is natural HTML5" but there are some situations where specific functions from the framework are required. He expressed how working on Wii U was "easier than I anticipated".
The Wii U exclusive is expected to hit the US eShop during Q1 this year for $1.99, with the game already submitted to Nintendo of America. A PAL release is planned for Q1 or Q2 2014. In addition Aschenbrenne is planning a number of free content in two drops - 20 stages "20 FREE new stages in Q2/Q3 2014, with a final batch of 30 FREE additional stages in Q4 2014".
