Nintendo Dominates Japan Top Ten Games 2013 on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Japanese magazine Famitsu has highlighted the biggest sellers of 2013, with Nintendo taking the lead for both Wii U and 3DS.

The top 10 most popular games in Japan last year are all on Nintendo platforms, bar Grand Theft Auto V, and include Pokémon, Monster Hunter and Dragon Quest. The full rundown, which tallied all 2013 sales until December 29th, is as follows:

  • 1) Pokémon X / Pokémon Y (3DS) - 3,976.829
  • 2) Monster Hunter 4 (3DS) - 3,923,312
  • 3) Animal Crossing: New Leaf (3DS) - 1,730,182
  • 4) Friend Collection: New Life (3DS) - 1,580,067
  • 5) Dragon Quest VII Remake (3DS) - 1,227,377
  • 6) Puzzles and Dragons Z (3DS) - 1,005,697
  • 7) Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon (3DS) - 982,737
  • 8) Grand Theft Auto V (PS3) - 605,882
  • 9) New Super Mario Bros. U (Wii U) - 584,479 (includes bundles)
  • 10) Wii Party U (Wii U) - 518,776 (includes bundles)

I don't really think people are saying Nintendo are a failure... they are slating the Wii U. But even still NSMB and Wii Party U are in there. I reckon if they get Smash and Mario Kart out this year then they'll easily be toward the top of this list too!

Surprised Fire Emblem was'nt on this list though, thought they were massive fans?

Sadly there are. I've seen many news articles that say Nintendo is failing and doomed. Others have have declared the 3DS a failure. It's sad some of what is being written.

It should be stressed that Wii Party U and NSMBU both shot up due to being bundled with hardware during the Christmas and New Year sales periods. Sadly the hardware has now dropped back down to deathly levels in Japan again. Still underperforming compared to...the GameCube Smilie

As for Fire Emblem, that was released ages ago in Japan and sold about ~450,000 in total in its first year on sale. No way it would have sold much more during 2013 there.

Was about to say that. Indeed that was a quite early 2012 release over there.
