A new 2D shooter/platformer, ReVeN, has spawned on Kickstarter, aiming to bring back classic side-scrolling mechanics to the masses.
The project launched earlier this week, citing Metroid and Megaman as gameplay influences, whilst aiming to invoke more contemporary RPG mechanics in games like Crysis and Deus Ex.
Drawing in designs from Metroid in particular, ReVen is set on the planet XR-Kere in the 28th century future. Within the planet itself, there are a handful of different locations to wander into, including a barren desert, ancient forest and the mysterious Nexum Station that's suddenly vanished after powering down.
There'll also be bonus stretch-content post release, including a mission-creator, local co-operative play and, if the stretch goal is reached, online multiplayer. A version for Wii U is also a possibility, with a stretch-goal starget of $100,000.
