Certain GAME Stores to Rebrand as Gametronics for Pre-owned Software and Gadgets on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Industry reports this week confirm that UK retailer GAME will be re-developing certain stores into stocking pre-owned titles only.

In a move that will change the focus of the specific stores to more akin to dedicated pre-owned retailer CEX, the new branches will be renamed "Gametronics", with the initial plan to renovate cities with multiple instances of GAME in place already.

The first two to run the pre-owned gauntlet will be Lincoln and Cambridge, with the change in name also reflecting the inclusion of tablets, MP3 player, phones and more to the roster. Those who trade-in pre-owned goods at Gametronics will also receive credit to use at all branches of GAME and other Gametronics outlets. Swish!

What do you think of the idea and name?

...or they could have just kept Gamestation and made it for retro/trade ins...

However not a bad idea though, i do use CEX a lot. I'm wary though, as GAMEtronics probably won't be as competitive as CEX (considering they arent already) and if they changed GAME to brand new software only then i'd worry for them as they charge way too much for retail releases...

It's important to have GAME on the high street to appeal to the mass market mums out there, but how many real gamers actually buy games from GAME's retail stores? For me its quite rare...the only things have caught me were Fire Emblem's Artbook and Pokemon X/Y's Pokeball bonus'. Even if it was a couple quid more than any other retailers at least it was a hook to buy with them!

Everything for me is: Amazon, ShopTo or CEX - I don't think GAME can really compete in this space for both trade-ins and new games - as you say Flynn-miester, it's really only for those mass-market parents or young kids who may not know otherwise.

Loved GameStation back in the day - totally different vibe and they used to specialise in retro goods and merch. Went tits up with the GAME merger.

Same with me. I do always pop into GAME as they do from time-to-time have decent deals, i got Xenoblade Chronicles for £15 when everywhere else was selling it for a lot more (CEX were selling it for £28 on the same day) likewise with Kirby Adventure Wii (Return to Dreamland) i got it for £19.99 new when others were selling for £35! So they do good deals now and again!

I'm guessing a retro game shop for the high street won't be so great considering the eShop, XBLA, PSstore etc.

I doubt CEX are scared either!

I'd be more happy with buying second had if some percentage of money went to the developer. :-/
