Amazon Acquires Double Helix Games on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Amazon has acquired Double Helix Games, the global retailer confirmed today in what could hint at a dedicated Amazon console.

The developer, which has a 75-strong team, will now be drafted into Amazon, continuing to operate in their current offices in Orange County, California. "Amazon has acquired Double Helix as part of our ongoing commitment to build innovative games for customers," confirmed the retailer this morning.

The studio's team had worked on key releases like Earthworm Jim, Enter the Matrix, Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb before becoming Double Helix, and more recently Killer Instinct and Silent Hill: Homecoming.

The move may highlight and reinforce rumours that Amazon might release a dedicated, Android-powered console in the future, with Double Helix helping establish more substantial content.

Do you think Amazon could be brewing their own console - what are your thoughts on the acquisition?

Eewwww this makes me cringe...smart phones will never be able to provide the full filling experience that only consoles & handheld can give.

It is not wise to speak on subjects you do not know all facts about, nor is it smart to judge a game based on looks alone. PSN: Nintendo_Gamer 3DS: 4296-3029-7422

sounds awful to me, i would however believe a games store akin to Amazon MP3 on android, i wouldnt be surprised if we saw an android logo pop up for steam releases soon. Not necessarily a bad thing if approached correctly, but im not buying any more systems after the retron 5 thats for sure.
