Latest Nintendo 13/02 Direct Summary: Mario Kart 8, NES Remix, Smash Bros, Bayonetta 2 on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Nintendo kicked off the year with a Direct Broadcast covering Wii U and 3DS games for Spring and beyond. Full recap below!

There'll be a wide range of big Nintendo names on both systems in the coming months, including the latest racing romp, Mario Kart 8, a brand new NES Remix compilation, Ubisoft's stunning Child of Light, plus two adorable 3DS platformers with Kirby and Yoshi at the helm.

  • It's a return for the seductive mistress of run and gun as Nintendo showed off more footage of Bayonetta 2, including "Witch Time" in action.
  • Whilst not releasing in the next few months, the still untitled new Monolith action/RPG was shown off, including sequences of players leaping into a mech to take out enemies with ease.

  • With Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze landing in stores this month, Nintendo let loose a final pre-launch trailer for the frosty platformer.
  • NES Remix 2, the second mash-up of classic Nintendo games, will include remixed challenges from NES titles like Kirby's Adventure, Metroid and Super Mario Bros. 3.
  • Alongside these shorter levels, there'll also be a full game called "Super Luigi Bros", that features all the levels from Super Mario Bros, back to front, with Luigi as lead character - even with his high jump.

 

  • Ubisoft's 2D, painted RPG Child of Light received a May 1st release date, plus new footage of lead character Aurora venturing through this vivid fantasy world.
  • Nintendo also confirmed Game Boy Advance titles for the Wii U Virtual Console, with the likes of Metroid Fusion and Super Mario Advance 3 hitting the service from April onwards.

Nintendo 3DS News & Trailers

  • The single player campaign for Mario Golf: World Tour was shown, called "Castle Club", where players use Mii characters to boost their skills through training games and collectable stat-modifying items. Launches 2nd May in Europe and North America.

  • More abilities and transformations from Kirby: Triple Deluxe were shown, as a pink puffball turns into all sorts of different forms to get through the wide range of new 2D levels. The game will land in stores on 16th May in Europe, 2nd May in North America.
  • The ever-adorable Yoshi's New Island was shown, as the iconic dinosaur flutter-jumps through new painted levels on Nintendo 3DS. Alongside his classic abilities, Yoshi can also transform into "Super Yoshi" and yield heavier eggs known as "Mega Eggdozers".

  • Nintendo also posted an interview with Level-5's Akihiro Hino on the development of Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney.
  • Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, the translated version of the bestselling 3DS release, was again confirmed to launch in North America and Europe in 2015.

  • Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl received a European release date of 2nd May, with an early eShop treat on 18th April for those wanting a digital slice of the action.
  • Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy got a new, animated trailer ahead of the February 28th release in North America.

  • Available now, Steel Diver: Sub Wars, was shown off for the 3DS eShop, featuring two versions: free and premium, with solo missions and online multiplayer for those looking to dive back into the submarine shooter experience.
  • Nintendo also launched football RPG Inazuna Eleven in North America yesterday, now available to download on the 3DS eShop.
  • Pokémon Battle Trozei is the latest addition to the Pokémon puzzler series, featuring over 700 critters from the entire franchise, plus local co-operative play for up to four players.

  • Nintendo's ambitious 3DS free-to-play concept Rusty's Real Deal Baseball was detailed, with a launch expected this April. Players help shop owner Rusty, to get real-life discounts on a range of baseball-themed mini games.
  • WEAPON SHOP de OMASSE, the forth title in Level-5's Guild01 series, was finally confirmed for release in North America and Europe on February 20th.
  • Nintendo Pocket Football Club was also detailed for European players, as aspiring Football managers lead teams, make transfers with friends and build stats on an accompanying website. The game is out 17th April on the 3DS eShop.
