The new entry in the Bravely series will have a stronger focus on the storyline, according to producer Tomoya Asano.
In an interview this week, Asano was quizzed on how the team at Square Enix intend to develop and enrich the series with the sequel, Bravely Second. The world of Luxendarc will be expanded "slightly differently" than an "expansive world you can explore", said Asano, that the "characters are there for the gameplay and the world is there for the characters."
He notes how the adjustable random battle rate, and the lack of physical enemies on the map "allows players to engage in battles at their own pace" as "showing exploration more naturally is not something we put importance on" in the series so far.
As for combat, the game will continue to follow the same sorts of mechanics as the original, bathed in turn-based battles due to the positive reaction to the first set of games. "So many of these systems should follow through to Bravely Second as well," he said.
