Over 50 Planned Wii U Games are Using Unity on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Nintendo of America has confirmed that over 50 games are planned for the Wii U that use the Unity game engine.

During GDC, Senior Manager of Marketing at Nintendo of America's Licensing department Damon Baker confirmed that 17 projects have been submitted and "will all be out within the next two months". A further "fifty that are waiting in the wings, that are coming," he said.

Unity comes free for developers who purchase Wii U development kits, ensuring a smooth transition when it comes to putting together projects for Nintendo's systems.

What are your thoughts on Nintendo's approach to development with Unity?

I wonder what the proportion is of Indie developpers in there. because I can't imagine any third parties bringing multiplat games to Wii U using Unity on Wii U and something else on other platforms... And I can't really imagine those 50 games being important third party exclusives either (I mean other than Indie games)

Could be a handful of games usin Unity in there from the likes of Ubi, Capcom and whatnot though, one can dream Smilie!

Maybe Nintendo already IS in talks with those bigger companies as to how to improve the situation for wiiU so that they won't miss out on it.  I'd especially love to see KH3 on WiiU.  Hopefully it will come to pass.

Still, never hurts to have indies.
