The latest issue of Famitsu magazine detailed some of the approaches taken by Capcom in the new Ace Attorney game.
Known as The Great Ace Attorney, the new tale will follow an ancestor of regular series protagonist Phoenix Wright, taking place in the 19th century.
The main focus, according to series creator Shu Takumi, is to make a "new Ace Attorney for fans and those new to the series [as well]", with the project coming straight off the back of Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney.
Producer Shintaro Kojima recalls how the team talked about conjuring up a new Ace Attorney release that isn't part of "main main numbered series". The "base of it is still Ace Attorney, but I was interested in the new possibilities and approaches, so I decided to join", he said.
The teams had explored other legal means like civil trials and settlements, but felt it may have been too much, so thought that "simply changing the era would be good enough", drawing influence from "classic mystery novels that were written about 100 years ago."
