Nintendo Working on NFC Accessory for 3DS on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Nintendo are planning on releasing an NFC reader/writer for the 3DS set of consoles.

During Nintendo's briefing to investors, plans for a "Nintendo Figure Platform" were announced, with figures that are intended to support multiple titles.

Until now, the Wii U is the only Nintendo system that includes a built in NFC reader/writer, however there are concerns that the demand for NFC may not "grow large enough when it is compatible only with Wii U", Nintendo president Satoru Iwata told investors.

With that in mind, and plans for character-driven NFC titles, Nintendo have been developing an accessory that uses infrared signals to add NFC functionality to those with 3DS consoles.

Nintendo are aiming to launch the device within the first half of the 2015, with Wii U to receive NFC titles by the end of the year.

Do you think NFC titles for 3DS could work?

Cool that they are not leaving 3DS out of the mix.
