Philips Wants Nintendo Wii U Banned from Sale in the US on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Electronics manufacturer Philips is attempting on getting the Wii U banned from sale across North America.

It is alleged that Nintendo have copied technologies that allow players to replicate real life actions in-game, and also for interfaces that are navigated using a pointing peripheral, for example swinging or aiming the Wii Remote.

The suit stems from patents that involve an "interactive system for which a user can remotely control devices in an intuitive manner." According to Philips, the company had informed Nintendo about the patents back in 2011.

Since then, things haven't changed and Philips are seeking a trial by jury to enforce a ban on the sale of Nintendo Wii U consoles in the US, plus costs on damages incurred.

Do you think Philips has a right to take action against Nintendo?

Trying to ban technology from 2006 with a patent from 2009? Good luck!

Oh good grief. Not again.

Yeah, the 231 patent I don't see anything happening with since it wasn't filed until 2009, but the "virtual body control device" patent 379 could have something, since it was issued in 2001. Is there any way someone could dig up that patent? And I don't see why they are singling out Nintendo. Couldn't the move and kinect be gone after as well? EDIT: here are both patents. http://www.google.com/patents/US20140062879 http://www.google.com/patents/US6285379

Working like a fiend isn't very fun... and surprisingly isn't very fiendish either.

If Philips ACTUALLY wins this ridiculous lawsuit then they'd better go after MS & Sony since both Kinect & Move also violate said interface.

It is not wise to speak on subjects you do not know all facts about, nor is it smart to judge a game based on looks alone. PSN: Nintendo_Gamer 3DS: 4296-3029-7422
