Sadness Resurrected as Wii U Exclusive from Cthulhi and HullBreach on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Update: It has come to light that Cthulhi Games and Hullbreach Studios has not acquired rights to the Sadness IP, and that they are unable to bid for obtaining those rights at this time.

Original story: Sadness, a concept penned by developer Nibris, is returning as a collaborative project between two indie studios.

The project, which had its fair share of ups and downs, never quite made it past the cutting room floor, only emerging in concept stills and footage. Now, years later, Sadness has been picked up by Cthulhi Games and HullBreach Studios, with a 2016 release in store.

In terms of platforms, the studios are planning on releasing Sadness as a Wii U exclusive, with their own engine and elements not included in the original brief - RPG and puzzle mechanics. There's also a shift to 2D.

More details are expected during Indie Sanctum 2014 in October and throughout the year.

Do you think Sadness will be able to become reality this time round?

Woah, talk about a blast from the past! I was seriously excited for this game back then. I'm really disappointed in the shift from 3D to 2D though. The Wii U has enough 2D indie games out and in development already.

Working like a fiend isn't very fun... and surprisingly isn't very fiendish either.

"A shift to 2D", does that mean the whole game will be 2D? Or just sections?

I am disappointed this is coming back around in what seems as a shameless attempt to drum up interest based on infamy.

Next up: starcraft: ghost but with new elements such as rhythm minigames, a deep stapler simulation, and rendered in voxels brought to you by No One Cares Games and funded through kickstarter. With stretch goals after $53,000,000 to bring it to Wii u and 2DS....fresh.

Yeah, it seems like this is going to be similar to the original idea in name only.

FUCK YES!!!! Pardon my French but I was REALLY excited for this game when it was originally announced, even if they intend to change some aspects from what they originally wanted to do I hope they keep the same art style & gameplay elements. The monsters that were drawn in concept art for the original Sadness release were some of the most grotesquely horrifying & original designs in recent memory.

Here's some of the concept art that's still online.

It is not wise to speak on subjects you do not know all facts about, nor is it smart to judge a game based on looks alone. PSN: Nintendo_Gamer 3DS: 4296-3029-7422

Oh, heads-up: they couldn't even get the name. -_-

Sooooo... It's not even going to be called Sadness??

So.... inspired by Sadness? Wow, bit of a get out clause there..
