Nintendo to Launch YouTube Affiliate Campaign for Content Creators on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Nintendo has announced plans to develop an affiliate program for YouTubers that help promote Nintendo titles online.

The Japanese game maker came under fire last year, with advertising on YouTube videos not going to those who spent hours, days and even years working on Nintendo videos, but to Nintendo themselves. The policy enraged the community, particularly those who produced original voice/video content in addition to simply playing through the Nintendo games.

However, it seems that Nintendo have given the YouTube approach a rethink, and are working on a program that will give selected channel owners a "portion of the advertising profit."

Details on the campaign will be announced in the future, Nintendo of America confirmed today.

What do you think of Nintendo's rethink on tackling YouTube?

Definitely a good idea to get YouTubers on side.

Nintendo need to learn and appreciate YouTubers, bloggers, fan sites and other content creators a bit more - these people are crucial in helping drive awareness towards Nintendo games, hardware etc - most doing it for absolutely free.

Traditional advertising just isn't the be-all-end-all of promotion, and I'm glad they're making some step in resolving this.

They really do take us for granted, sometimes - imagine a world without fan sites, YouTubers and social fans (Intstagram/Facebook) - Nintendo would be fucked.

I dunno, it depends how much original content they contribute really.
Not sure any fan should earn advertising money from a straight / pure LetsPlay - they arnt contributing much to the end product, and for story based games arguably its a subtle form of piracy. (that doesn't really apply to Nintendo games much, however, which tend to be more gameplay based then story based.)
