E3 2014 Media | Legend of Zelda for Wii U Will have an Open World - First Screens on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

During Nintendo Direct today, Legend of Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma revealed a first snippet from the new Wii U game.

Nintendo's home console is getting two titles; one main-series adventure from the team at Nintendo, together with the additional brawler Hyrule Warriors.

The new Legend of Zelda game will take on a more open-world approach, according to Aonuma. Gone is the fairly linear design of being bound by dungeons and fixed sequences, in favour of a more dynamic setting that's defined purely by where players go, rather than where in the game they may be.

More details on the new Legend of Zelda for WIi U are expected throughout the E3 conference this week.

I can't wait to hear and see more!

Zelda with a Xenoblade-esq landscape is EXACTLY what I wanted, it looked perfect.

My mind was blown away by this reveal. I was half expecting Nintendo to wait until the end for this one. But from what we saw. they have gone into a steam-punk style, what with the futuristic bow and boss Link has to fight. And the fact that its open world and non-linear, makes it even more exciting. Nintendo, you are on the way to making Zelda even more epic

I'm so happy with this reveal. Wanted a big open world for so long.

It looks beautiful, although I was hoping for slightly more realistic style. It's close in style to Skyward sword.

I was hoping for a more realistic style, but I can't lie... this is gorgeous! It looks like the full realization of what they were trying to accomplish with Skyward Sword. Plus, open world?? Count me in! If that is Hyrule Field, it is very easily the most beautiful one they have created to date.

Working like a fiend isn't very fun... and surprisingly isn't very fiendish either.

All I needed to hear from Nintendo's Direct was 'open-world Zelda' and that was me sorted. Looks and sounds gorgeous.

And I'm glad Link has a classic Link look about him again. Was getting tired of the OOT/TP look we've had for a long time now.

To go on a blackout or not..? Kinda wanna see some proper in-game gameplay first. Man, there's nothing more exciting than a new Zelda reveal.

for me this is the only good thing to come out of E3 so far

Thats Nintendo. we seen Mario; Gorgeous. We seen Mario Kart; Beautiful and now Zelda; Stunning. Now imagine what they could do with Metroid, Starfox and Kid Icarus.

It's only a matter of time before we see Star Fox, as it has been announced that it is in development for the Wii U and will launch in 2015.
