E3 2014 | Create Mario Levels in Mario Maker for Wii U on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Ever wanted to create a Mario game? For the first time, players will be able to devise Mario-themed levels.

Coming to Wii U in the first half of next year, the project - known as Mario Maker (working title), will allow players to use the Wii U GamePad to create their very own levels from scratch. Both modern and retro palettes will be available, with the option to switch between each at the press of a button.

Players will be able to stack up enemies in all sorts of bizarre ways, or make some of the most fiendish of platforming designs for friends to attempt to overcome.

Will you create your own Mario stages in the new game?

I love that you can switch from Classic Super Mario to New Super Mario graphics!

The fact you can switch art styles from NES to New Super Mario Bros. is pretty sweet, and the customization looks not to shabby either, as I hope there are more characters to play as other than just Mario. Nintendo should give out more info, but if not, the next Nintendo Direct could do so

I hope you can switch to a variety of backgrounds and themes (like underground, sand and underwater levels). As long as Nintendo don't impose any silly restrictions on sharing and size of levels, this should be great. Another nice thing would be if they added more features from games other than the 2 represented such as the raccoon and frog suits or even Yoshi.

They might, as that would be a good addition, or customize the outfits he wears. Also changing the BGM in levels, like Sonic Generations did, being able to chose tracks from all the Mario games from the past. Playing as Yoshi in a raccoon suit would make be the icing on the cake, and have Rosilina playable

I love that this game took a lot of inspiration from Mario Paint (From the main screen font to the interface elements). I think that this will spawn a new generation of "Hard Mario" type challenge games that are nearly impossible, and easy sharing should give players a lot of re-playability and bragging rights.
