Cloud Based Dragon Quest X Heading to 3DS on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

A cloud-based version of Dragon Quest X has been announced for Nintendo 3DS, with a September release.

Square Enix confirmed the game as a new approach for the handheld, which will use a streaming service to run the game, rather than running on the system directly. The game will still use the fees-based model for those wanting in on the action, with a 350 Yen charge for three days, 650 Yen for 10 days or a monthly subscription for 1,500 Yen.

There'll also be a 60-day free trial code for the application, an in-game "Lemon Slime Board Prism" vehicle, a "Casino Coin Ticket", poster, lottery card and five "Great EXP Archives" that grant 1,000 experience points per use.

What do you think of the cloud-based approach for Dragon Quest X Online?

I think this is an amazing idea! Tapping into the large userbase of the 3DS to maximise sales of such a great game that has crept towards the million mark on Wii and Wii U (isn't there a PC version as well?). It can only work well with a strong network, but in Japan that shouldn't be a problem.

I do wonder if this opens the door for a potential localisation. It was pencilled in for Wii U, but all things have gone quiet, sadly.
