Nintendo 3DS has 300 Installed App Limit on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

One Nintendo 3DS user has identified an issue when trying to install over 300 apps on the handheld.

With a growing number of new games, Virtual Console classics and apps on Nintendo's portable, it may seem like there's almost endless capacity to store new releases, but there is supposedly a limit. A Reddit user reports that after reaching 300 apps installed on the system, nothing further can be added despite having over 100,000 blocks left in storage.

Software can be deleted, however, to free up space - with previously downloaded/purchased titles always re-downloadable at a later date.

Roughly how many apps do you have running on your 3DS?

Well that's dumb.

Think about it though....does anyone REALLY NEED to have access to 300 apps at any given time? I doubt most people will be downloading that many things & keeping them on the system at the same time. I'm fairly picky with my DLed games & don't expect to come close to that limit.

Yeah. It's still dumb.

I think I must be close to 100 myself by now, with demoes which I clinged to over the years, some trailers leftover and all the stuff I downloaded in terms of games Smilie. Having a 300 limit of software on your system at any given time must be for memory reasons too, imagine your system having to load all the icons of all that software at once at every bootup of the system, let alone if folders are not being used and those icons are ALL on the menu. There's only so much you can fit into that 64MB of RAM dedicated to the OS methinks, and allowing for more of them might make booting up the console quite slow.

I'm not for any kind of limitations myself but I can imagine valid reasons (hardware ones for one thing) for which they had to resort to this. A workaround would be cool and desirable IMHO, for those who DO want to keep their full library of games with them wherever they go, and want to do so on their Nintendo handheld.

Well said Rudy, have a star friend! Smilie I still have my RE Revelations demo with 21 plays left on it since it offers a different gameplay portion than what's inthe final game. Also my Ambassador Account app & some Dreamworks vids like the Shrek & Monsters vs Aliens videos.

If Nintendo let's people download & own videos that were showcased on Nintendo Video I can see that 300 limit reached by more people, especially if Nintendo works out a deal with Cartoon Hangover. Does Nintendo video in the UK get the Cartoon Hangover videos for Bravest Warriors as well or just us in the states?

Nintendo Video, as far as I'm aware anyway cause I deleted the app a while ago to save space, was discontinued over in Europe.

Well that's a shame, thank god for youtube though I liked the little Puppycat series they were gonna do...a shame it didn't get enough kickstart support though. T_T

They just didn't think it was a priority.
They could easily get around it though. Windows3.1 can deal with more files then that, after all, despite running on vastly smaller spec. You just have to dynamically load more, rather then all at once.

From what I gathered, it met the goal. Smilie

I helped support it, too.
