I feel the way I do about Iwata because he has been one of the primary obstacles to Nintendo adopting a more fluid (but STILL safe) online experience. I don't know to how many developers they've said no to but there has been A LOT of third party games Nintendo should've fought harder to get. I know not all the bad press Nintendo gets is deserved, but there's a fairly large portion that they are guilty of & some of Iwata's are directly to blame.Make sure when you guys talk about executives you don't approach blindly; but rather take a few steps back & view them objectively with the future of the company in mind.
So.. you hate Iwata because he's doing the right thing, but not doing it right enough?
Your second paragraph is literally proving my point. You need to take a few steps back and objectively see how Iwata is protecting the future of Nintendo, because he wants to develop Nintendo hardware and software and is one of the only Japanese industry members who still wants to do that.
Because right now, the alternative is not "PS-quality online and 3rd party relations", that is not something that any Japanese developer besides Sony (who are more focused on western market and are failing in Japan) cares about. Once again, Nintendo are being pressured on all sides to become a smartphone game developer.
If Iwata goes, no higher ups in the company give a heck about making online better and improving third party relations because that's not what the Japanese game industry care about. They will turn Nintendo into a smartphone dev if Iwata goes. That is not a possibility, that is the reality.
I'm not defending Iwata because I think he's a great infallible guy, I'm defending him because for the Nintendo fan who likes playing good Nintendo games on Nintendo consoles, sticking with him until he selects his successor is our only option if we want to keep playing Nintendo hardware and software.
If Iwata is "booted" like you wished to happen, Nintendo would quickly become the next Capcom, SEGA or Square, focusing the majority of resources to smartphone gaming and little else. This is not a rumour, this is the current truth of the Japanese game market.
