New Hyrule Warriors Direct Details: Adventure Mode, Characters, Chain Chomp on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Today's Hyrule Warriors Direct presentation confirmed a wealth of new updates and juicy details for the upcoming game.

In addition to the confirmation of playable baddies like Ganondorf, Zant and Ghirahim (more details), Nintendo highlighted new weapons for the current crop of characters - including the "Magic Rod" for Link, baton for Zelda and a spear for Lana. Each will come with a skill-boosting attribute, for example increasing the chance of finding recovery hearts or boosting the attack damage.

Players can also use a "Chain Chomp" from the Super Mario Bros. series (a nod to The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening) and blast through the landscape with the explosive "Bombchu" critters.

There'll also be RPG elements, with players able to level-up characters to increase HP/attacks, but also using materials earned to craft badges to increase the number of moves a weapon can do, combos and extend "Focus Spirit" for special abilities.

The Adventure Mode includes a grid of challenges that's designed to look like the Legend of Zelda (NES) map. Completing each of these challenges unlocks a new region, and a new level in the Adventure Mode. Certain characters and weapons can only be found here.

Finally, certain DLC content will be made available as pre-order bonuses from selected retailers.

Totally exceeded my expectations with this one - loads of great new stuff, so much to unlock!

Am a bit weary about the DLC coming as pre-order retailer incentives - I'm hoping/assuming it'll also be available (as paid) for everyone too.

I guess this completes the roster?

But wait!!...............There's more!!!!!!
One last new character..........

GROOSE DROPS IN!!! with his luscious hair and amazing looks how could they resist leaving this hunk out of the game!!!

Oh how happy i'd be

Funny, I had literally been thinking about comedy items like Chain Chomp recently, hoping that would happen. The ladder from Zelda 1 was another I hoped would be in for the lulz.

Adventure mode looks really fun. I like that kind of unlocking-progression based format in games.

I skipped over most stuff because I don't want it spoiled, but now that I've seen this, I guess it feels like those characters will be the last. There were no hints of anything further... and those three previously unfilled character slots are filled now. But I'm a bit sad if that's the case. I just don't understand why this game is so focused on OoT, TP and SS. Doesn't seem right to me. But I won't complain too much... I'm satisfied. But... Malon ;_;

I'm hoping 'retailer exclusive' DLC will not happen in Europe. Just let us buy separate on eShop. Horrible, horrible practice. And people need to boycott GAME here anyway - scummy company.

An awesome direct overall but the part about the costume dlc did annoy me a bit. If their gonna do preorder dlc it should be the bloody same in most, if not all shops. They really made ganondorf look like the Lu Bu of this game didn't they? XD

So happy to see Chain Chomp in the game, it was one of my favourite moments in the Direct! ^_^

The costume packs better be available for anyone on the eShop, otherwise wouldn't that mean you could only get one set and not the other? Heck, depending on where they're available, it might be the best to buy your copy where it's the cheapest and get the costume packs on their own if you so desire.

Whilst the character section of the website doesn't seem to have been updated, it still says "Coming soon" on both the player character and enemy sections. Maybe there'll be a couple more characters, who knows?

Please please please please D:

I feel Malon is slim now though because those cuccos would have been the perfect weapon for her. If she was in it, they would have given them to her, surely. Man, she's more synonymous with OOT than Ruto or Darunia is to me. So many fond childhood memories of her.

Hopefully this'll be the case, although besides Wizro, Valga and cia, I think we might be near the end of characters which is a shame. Still holding onto some hope though for a surprise character though xD

Surprise last character - Mario with Hammer and fireballs, I called it.

Well I hope they add these DLC costumes to the DLC eShop page as well since I'll be downloading this title. It's a shame we don't get Gannondor's original form Demise as a Demon King costume...such an incredible look he has in Skyward Sword!!

It is not wise to speak on subjects you do not know all facts about, nor is it smart to judge a game based on looks alone. PSN: Nintendo_Gamer 3DS: 4296-3029-7422
