Amazon has stepped up to purchase leading video streaming website, Twitch this week.
The worldwide retailer has confirmed an agreement with Twitch's shareholders to purchase remaining shares for approximately $970 million.
Twich, founded in 2011, is the leading video streaming platform for gamers to broadcast live sessions over the internet, with a range of high profile names using the service each day. The service has had such a strong following that functionality has been integrated into PS4 and Xbox One.
One of the latest channels to make headlines was A Fish Plays Pokémon.
Google were reported to be in the running, but Amazon won the bid to let the company "do even more for our community," said Twitch CEO Emmett Shear in a statement. "This change will mean great things for our community, and will let us bring Twitch to even more people around the world."
The acquisition is expected to finalise by the end of 2014.
